True and good notice Lucy... I use a debit/credit card to purchase here directly from my bank. and yes the 3 number verification is something I am not too fond of. which is why I haven't bought much from here .. my recent purchases have been from Daz or elsewhere. With exception to the gift wishlists for JD and a few others.
We take advantage of this extra security feature with credit cards to help cut down on fraudulent purchases. If you cant purchase from the on-line store we do accept orders over the phone. If the phone number is needed E-Mail store@renderosity.com and I'll get it to you. Clint

The important distinction you have to make is "Card present transactions" and "Card not present transactions." For "Card present transactions" - This means you are physically there when either you or the merchant swipe the card. The merchant can optionally (and hopefully does for security's sake!) decide to ask you for identification to prove you are the actual card owner. For "Card not present transactions" - This means you are giving your card number out over the telephone and/or Internet where the merchant cannot validate you are the actual card holder. It is for these types of purchases they created the authorization codes in the first place! So for the issuing bank to say not to give it out is just silly, that's exactly what its for! Now what they probably meant to say was 'Don't give it out to anyone you don't trust', but no one should need to tell you that! This code is then passed on by Renderosity back to your bank so they can verify that, at the least, the person who placed the order had the card in their possession at the time of purchase, and hadn't gotten your credit card number off an old slip or something. Renderosity never stores your credit card number OR authentication code, so its safe to enter here. Even if the site or database was comprimised, you would still have nothing to worry about. Questions?
Actually credit card companies want merchants to use those 3 digits. Because it generally means you are holding the car in your hand and not using just a number - it is supposed to cut down fraud. (as clint said) Merchant's accounts often provide a "checkout" script and merchants accounts are contacts with various credit card companies. Some of them will not allow a sale to process without that code. Renderosity accept PayPal??!! OMG that would kill me too! I'd have to hock the kids....

Renderosity's online credit card purchasing requires a 3 digit card verification code. When using Paypal's virtual card, they do not provide such a number & I am unable to buy from the marketplace - this is very discouraging. I prefer to use this method to buy things & I am able to do that at DAZ as well as other places that do not require the 3 digit code.
Some card companies instruct the cardholders not to give out the verification code - saying that it's not supposed to be asked for. I don't know what the reality of that is, but realistically, I think that it should be an option to enter. I know that it may increase the security of the transaction and yet ppl may be put off from buying because of 'having' to enter it.
Please advise me if there is a way to purchase the items I want from here w/o the verification code or if having to enter it can become an choice - thereby opening up purchasing options.
I have already e-mail Paypal's customer service asking if they can/will add those numbers to the virtual cards....
