Actually credit card companies want merchants to use those 3 digits. Because it generally means you are holding the car in your hand and not using just a number - it is supposed to cut down fraud. (as clint said) Merchant's accounts often provide a "checkout" script and merchants accounts are contacts with various credit card companies. Some of them will not allow a sale to process without that code. Renderosity accept PayPal??!! OMG that would kill me too! I'd have to hock the kids....
