Blenders newest versions aren't free anymore. about a year ago they went to a commercial license and started selling blender. prior to that they were open source ( I'll check my cdroms, might have a copy of the sources for it for linux, not much difference for mac osx from linux version) newest version I have is commercial license and it has become a game generator, can no longer model as well as it used to.
