Subject: Maybe it's irrational, but--

I'm going to personally boycott all vendors who sell textures and other add-ons to original items that are given FREE to the community by their generous creators (I'm referring this time around to ISO's wonderful FREE pants suit). I know many of the merchants hate even the faintest whiff of criticism when it's aimed at one of their own, but this practice really irks me. There. I said it. Again.

This has been debated but there are other ways to look at it. I first thought the practice was wrong as well but isn't ISO's stuff restricted for personal use only? If there is a commercial price for an item why shouldn't a good texture be available commercially as well? And if the mesh creator doesn't have a problem with someone releasing a good texture for sale, what's wrong with just passing on that particular product rather than trashing someones talent? It's like the debate on whether to restrict free stuff or not to restrict - there are differing opinions and ideas and nothing set in black and white. No right or wrong.

Personal use only meaning no resale/redistribution, I think. Not trashing anyone's talent; it just seems like kind of a slimy business practice. Others would applaud the good business sense of those smart enough to ride the coat-tails of a popular free item, though, I know. It's just a facial tic of mine--no big deal.

I do see your point, Mosca. But I look at it as someone selling their own work based on another work. The pant suit textures took a lot of time and effort to make, and if the maker of them chooses to sell them, so be it. There is creation involved with the making of texture, so they're just putting a price on their own work.
