I used sample scenes a few times to understand how they could reach that level of 'goodness'. I am not sure what the original post is about though (I did not recognize who it is about). If this guy just opened a sample scene from the Vue CD, changed a light or two and called it his own : this is questionable. If he made the scene himself, or used a sample scene and replaced everything with something different : what is the problem with that ? As for using models designed by others, this is common practice. I, for one, am nowhere good enough to model everything from scratch. In many ways, what we are doing with Vue is closer to computer generated photography. We put together a scene (wether we modeled everything is irrelevant) and we take one or many shots of that scene. If I take a picture of the Statue of Liberty at night, nobody is going to complain I did not build the statue myself. Same thing if I paint a fruit basket or a portrait. The difference is in how much work has been put into making something original.
