I've done sector by sector recovery with Ontrack before. There's a freeware, or a program that comes with the cheap FixIt CD that lets you recover up to 10 files at a time It recovers directory structure and all and if you buy the recovery tool you can do the whole hard drive in one shot. I prefer to save money and extract 10 at a time.
