Hi there, This is the current state of the posable/morphable new hair coming soon. It does pose and various combinations of morphs are possible, but are there any similar styles you want me to try and add before it is done? There is a curly morph that can by applied to any style morph as well. Regards, Anton anton@daz3d.com PS: This light set will be included. Taking requests for colors too. Email me any pics if you have something specific in mind instead of posting them here. Thanks.

Uh, Anton, chicks don't have the corner on curly hair, okay? I know we want to push more and more Barbie -- er, I mean, Vicky -- out the store, but some of us have been asking for curly hair for the guys for months, to little or no avail. How about it?

hmatienzo ( ) posted Tue, 20 August 2002 at 7:45 PM

How about a morph that lets the hair fall down, like when you are bending over or down? The wind-blown morph is not quite the same as hanging your head over the side of the bed...

Whooo! This hair looks wonderful!

PheonixRising ( ) posted Tue, 20 August 2002 at 7:59 PM

There are posing morphs for when the head and neck bend and turn. By "Fall down" do you mean on either side of the neck? Michael Mallen did do an incredible curly style for Mike. Did you mean long curly hair?

This looks really great - I tried to do something like it myself and failed miserably, so I'll be in line when it becomes available!

Orio ( ) posted Tue, 20 August 2002 at 8:03 PM

I really really like the woman's texture map too - is it a DAZ product, a going-to-be DAZ product, or a personal item of yours?

Momcat ( ) posted Tue, 20 August 2002 at 8:04 PM

I think he mean like if the figure was lying on a bed with her hair hanging over, or if she were bent over like touching her toes or something similar.

(Awestruck expletive deleted) That is some awesome fetching hair, Anton! Dude, all I wanna know right now is when, where, and how much?

I really like the first pic. Great looking hair. How about having the hair pulled back with a barette or whatever is used to hold a ponytail. But have it secured at the base of the neck. The front and sides would remain the same it would only be the back of the hair. The hair appears to be very thick and that might be a good look. Looking forward to seeing the hair at Daz. Bill

Hi again, Working on some of these morphs now. A real bonus is the glimmer it adds to the hair and skin. Notice how appropriately the color changes between curly and straight. In the last image with the Godiva morph, the shimmer is created by the lights and has nothing to do with the texture. Been doing test with the lights too. Works well with other hair. This is Michael and Misti's latest Grecian hair. I will include some light variations too. Momcat, The texture is the New Daz Vicki3 texture shown here on V2. That texture will be released with Vicki3 in a few weeks or sooner. She is more than a cr2 and the guys are being thorough on her enhancements. Don't worry, my typing notoriously sucks. I never proof read. Penguinisto, I have to finish it obviously but it may be available sooner than V3. I am sure the price will be inexpensive though I don't know what it will be.

Anton, this is really wonderful! Is there any chance to add another morph to make it a tad bit curlier, almost like spiral curls? The other morphs everyone is talking about sounds good also. Those lights are really nice too? Which technique is this? Are you by any chance going to make those available at some point? The texture for the hair is very nice also. Good work! Love the V3 texture too. Pendy

ElorOnceDark and hmatienzo, Pic one above is the default state. This pic is of the hair falling forward with morphing and posing. In that state it handles the shoulders just fine. Morph targets have one major drawback. They are linear, meaning they cannot travel a curve. So in-between settings can produce really cool or strange in-between results. The longer the hair gets or the more it is morphed away from it's default state, the less it can hug the neck and body while remaining true during posing. Alot of this styles posing is done through posing and morphing. Basically since Poser was never intended to handle complex figures there is always some compromise. There are styles specific to the neck and shoulders I want to create. They will have a joint setup that specifically works for those looks. But I will still work on making this style as flexible as possible. Anton

How about the quality of the texture/transmaps? It's frustrating to work on a character and have the hair not up to par with the rest. Something on the order of the quality of the gypsy hair? And maybe usable on the fantasy beard as well? Or a separate set for the fantasy beard?

mabfairyqueen ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 9:52 AM

I think that the hair PheonixRising is showing is up to par with the exquisite skin texture on the figure. That's my opinion.

judith ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 10:31 AM

Perhaps with the skin texture he's showing, but put it up against one of Syyd's, Colm's, Stefyzz. or Catherina's ultra realistic textures. Does it stand up? The biggest frustration I have these days is hair, not standing up to the realism of the model. There are only two I've found that make it.

I think the skin texture PheonixRising is showing stands up to about every skin texture I've seen out there from what I can see. That, again, is my opinion. I make no profits off the skin texture. I just like what I see here.

FishNose ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 11:48 AM

I'd like to see a curl right at the hair root - so the hair curves forward or down onto or in front of the forehead before going off to the sides. All the variations you've shown so far have the hair going up and to the sides. This would give double the number of possible styles. In the forward bent pic the hair should start falling forward from the root, not the neck. :] FishNose

judith ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 11:52 AM

A little more definition in the transmaps may be in order also. It's a good start, but it's not there yet.

Even if it is a conforming figure...it will only take a little tweaking to get it on Mike's head. If I can get MallenLane's Long Hair for Mike on Vicki...I can do the reverse. LOL! Then we will have a genuine hairstyle for a male 80's style headbanger!! WOOHOO! I think this looks fantastic!! I can't wait to play with it! I have been waiting for Long curly hair just like this! I WANT MY V3!! sigh

ElorOnceDark ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 2:23 PM

Thanks for the pic Anton. I have some hair that looks great when the neck and head are in their default positions, but when you bend them ever so slightly, the hair diappears into the chest! This isn't bad if you can morph it back into shape though. I think this hair is looking great! I really like the pic on the left in the first post you made.

GilaMonster ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 3:31 PM

That looks fantastic. Two requests: Morph to fit Mike (if possible) Morph to push the hair behind the ears (for elves)

mabfairyqueen ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 6:06 PM

Ooooo!! I'm going to ditto GilaMonster about a morph to push the hair behind the ears. I love fantasy with elves and such.

Lyrra ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 4:34 AM

Well I was undecided until post number9. Ka-Ching! Tell me there's a Mike fitting morph? I have this thing for long, long, floorlength hair - on any gender. My only possible suggestions: more and messier bang options, and even longer! :) Lovely, Anton, like usual :) You make great hairs. Can't wait to get my hands on this one and texture it to a fare-thee-well heh heh

PheonixRising ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 7:19 AM

Cool. I will try to work as much in as I can. It's a big list for one mesh but I will definately work on it. The transmap is final. There are four variations to chose from. I prefer not to do smudgey transmaps. Regards, Anton

Question, Are those eyebrows on the face texture or a transmap on the eyebrows? I prefer trans mapped eyebrows myself, because it gives one the option of changing the eyebrows to different styles for different characters and occasions. It'd be great if it's a transmapped set, but I can erase the eyebrows if I need to, if it's part of the face texture; so it doesn't matter that much. Just curious. It looks really great.

movida ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 8:47 AM

Back to the hair (I assumed that was the topic of discussion here) I don't think I'll purchase this product. I'm disgusted with myself for buying wholesale because of the special intro sale prices and ending up with items I never use. If the transmap was more realistic I would buy it. I already have the fantasy beard and I don't use it because of the sketchy look it gives. Would it be that difficult to correct this? I'd even PAY for a better set for the fantasy beard. Are we asking the impossible?

PheonixRising ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 4:49 PM

file_20891.jpg

I personally don't like blurry hair. But I understand other people like the look. The problem with Kosaburo style transmaps on hair like this is that the blurred edges quickly become "haze" during extreme morphing. What would start of as a nice crisp edge can often stretch into a big semi-transprent blur. Hair styles that are one piece sheets can be cylidraically mapped and do look great. But it isn't a coincidence that they are all short styles. The Fantasy beard has the best transmap possible for the density of geometry and amount of deformation during morphing. That is why not even third party ones exist. This is they type of trans these styles can handle. Traditional UV mapping like the michael's "Wedge Cut" would require a trans map so large the hair would likely not render. This particular style is about 50 locks at 720polygons each. My guess is a traditional transmap would have to be 6000by6000. More importantly though is that traditional mapping in impossible with these types of high geometry "highly-layered" styles. That is why no one else is making them. SO my point is that it isn't that you are delibereately being denied a level of quality in anyway, but the painting techniques for the short "static" styles can't work on complex hair. In more complex programs it would but for Poser4,5, or 6 we are stuck with certain properties. I wish it was different.

I think there may be some confusion about the mesh. Perhaps this will show what I mean better. You can't cylidrically unwrap that.

I didn't mean to imply I was receiving a sub-standard product. I meant I wasn't thrilled with the hair/beard rendered. Doesn't it make more sense to make a hair without morphs already available in other products (Total Hair, Gypsy Hair, Koz's hair) but with spectacular trans maps? I'd buy (and have - Gypsy and Total) 2 hairs that were excellent and pricey for the quality. Why not just eliminate the morphs covered by the 2 mentioned hairs and just do a short, curly with excellent trans maps? A quick glance above and it seems 1 and 4 could be done with Total hair. Why waste time re-doing it? I'd buy it in a second.

Here are 3 styles, all similar lengths that I'd pay for. It could be done with morphs and good trans maps couldn't it?

A red, brunette and blonde texture map? Yes, they're all Kim Basinger g
