I tried knitting myself a mail shirt once, just in case. But I gave up after only putting together the rudiments of a vest. Get enough of those little links together, and they really add up, weight-wise. Especially around the shoulders. Truly exhausting.

I wonder if I can buy Kevlar or Spectra anywhere by the square yard ....
