This sounds very much like invisible items of clothing being exported with the rest of the figure. Do you have the latest Poser 4 patch? This automatically rejects hidden/invisible items and doesn't export them. If not, make sure that you deselect the check boxes for invisible parts in the export dialogue when you export a figure.
