There are two off the wall inferences that I know about that their authors call theories. 1) the Nemisis 'theory'. a planet or sun comes close to earth every so many million years and thus causes earthquakes and other disasters. There are several varients on this one including the Planet X inference. 2)The 'theory' that there was once a planet between Mars and Jupiter. which blew up. (I like this one.) - TJ
