THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: .obj imports in Bryce

file_23334.jpg

here is my problem. I have created a beautiful background in bryce which I have supplied here. And a rather nifty looking fairy in poser. I export the fairy as obj and import into bryce. I've figured out the trans map problems and such by scrolling through pasr posts but when the obj file is put into bryce it is extremely dark (almost black) no matter where I put it in the image. How can I "lite it up" so to say so it looks as bright as the rest of the picture? The sun is positioned late morning so to say in center of dial and I have softened and lightened all shadows. Please help! Also would like to hear suggestions or comments from all on the image. The door in the tree is gone for now and I have corrected the trees on the right so they look like the rest of them in background. Obviously no post work done yet.

You might have to sneak in some little lights to brighten up your fairy. I'm not skilled enough to explain why this sort of problem occurs. I had a similar sort of problem and used lights myself to get the poser figure to look right. Lin

If possible you can also play with the diffuse and ambience settings in the texture editor, but lights can give a better result sometimes. It all depends on the look you're going for.

I've played with this as well, since I'm kinda new to using Poser with Bryce myself. Seems to be that the default ambient channel for the imported Poser object is set to black. By changing it to the same as the texture's and dragging the ambience slider up, that should help. Other than that, you could try ctrl-selecting different components of the imported object group and applying and adjusting materials in the same manner as you'd normally do in Bryce. Sometimes this is the way to go, especcially when it effects the color of things like the eye where you want to change the specular and reflectivity channels as well. Also, I second the use of fill-in lighting on Poser characters if the shadows or ambient lighting still doesn't seem right.

Try diffuse at 80%, ambiant at 20%.....works for me.

thanks all. I've played with ambience and lights and think I have got what I wanted. At 3000X2550 it takes awhile to render and tell hehehehe.

Always make a small test render before you go for the high res version. It would be highly inefficient if you let your computer render for hours to get an end result that needs more work.

I have done a test render and was pleased with what it was doing. Final image will have to wait for photoshop to finish
