Subject: wind force--Am I the only one who doesn't understand it

Hello, I brought in Judy, clothed her, used Walk Designer, then went to Cloth room. Works great. Now, I wanted to add Wind Force to look like she was walking into the wind. I can't seem to make it work. For one thing, the force field is added at the bottom. I move it where I want, in front of her. And nothing. I have tried all the settings. I don't have to "make movie" to see it, do I? Thanks, Bill

Try increasing the range of the wind force (i.e. increase its volume of infuence). Any cloth outside the "cone" is unaffected.

Bill I just tried playing with it today. A good tut would help. Franyboy I have tried increasing the range. If there is a difference it is small. I just need to play with it more before I get the hang of it. Ron

Did you try Recalculate Dynamics after you added the wind? I haven't tried wind yet but it seems you have to (or should) recalculate after everything you do.

I have not had success with this either. I increased the range and the amplitude, calculated the simulation - nothing (or not much). Why were no (or not enough) tutorials included in the manual for these new features? :(

Entropic is writing a comprehensive tutorial to use on how to use wind forces at this very moment. ;) It should be done in an hour or so.

Hey all! Here are a few screenshots to hold you over! I'm writing as fast as I can so please be patient. =D Paul

Here's another for you!

Btw: I set the wind power up really high for playing... I'll be giving more accurate and realistic results in my tutorial. Paul

Nose poke through! A new one for Poser. ;) Thanks, Paul. Looking forward to it. Phoenix

I am glad to see that I wasn't alone, but even happier that there is a tutorial coming on it. Soon, it will be one down, sixty four more to go. I figure it will take about sixty five tutorials and maybe I will be okay will Poser5. (notice, I said "ok") Bill

Entropic ( ) posted Tue, 17 September 2002 at 1:33 AM

Heh... I know the nose is poking through... that's a result of not setting the collision up properly ( which takes work to get really good at ). The tutorial's being uploaded now. wayneout: Kiera's got a materials tutorial coming up soon that she's been working her ass on, so it looks like you're down to 63. ;) Paul P.S.: The biggest problem, btw, with figuring this one out is that everyone, even Curious Labs, keeps calling it the wind "deformer". It's not a deformer in any sense of the word, it's a dynamic force. I think that made a big difference in how people were going about things.

So right E'. I think part of the problem is that the wind force fan can be added in any of the rooms. Since it has to be used in the Cloth room as part of a simulation, being able to apply it in other rooms is a bit misleading. I've attached an image of a cloth object falling onto a fan, mainly cause I think it looks cool. ;) I'd like to see the tutorial when you finish it since it looks like you're getting a handle on how this works.

Yeah, bushi! Great render, btw. The only reason I'm figuring it out is because I know a bit of physics and have worked with high-end stuff. The tutorial is rebuiding into the site now, btw. ;) Paul

Paul thanks. I am writing some tuts on hair and cloth. Hopefully will be done soon. Ron

Thank you, everybody! What would we do without the generous help of people like you?
