Here is an old example of an image in Bryce created using the 2D pict plane. The Gnome was painted in PhotoShop with the air brush tool. You need to creat a Alpha channel for the mask, then import it into Bryce. This can be very effective for all sorts of uses. You see it used in lots of backgrounds but it works upclose as well.
