Yep, due to the small chip you'll get a lot larger DOF-range compared to 35mm. Good for macro shots but maybe a problem for portraits. Maybe take a look at the AFD 1.8/50 as an additional lens, its about 130 Euro here (should be $100 for you). Stoped down two f-stops it's one of the best performing Nikkors and a really bargain, wide open it's a bit soft, but maybe just right for portraits-shots, especially as it will behave like a 1.8/75 on your D100.
