(let's see if I can do this again...) Jim, Poser does indeed use normals... ones that IT computes. It computes them (as Kattman describes above) based on the ordering of the vertices. So if you reverse the normals (or 'reverse winding order'), you'll end up with that inside-out image you posted - whether or not you include normal vertices in the file.
