What Operating System are you using? Is it just your memory you upgraded, or your OS also? 48Mb mesh??!! What is it, a 1:1 scale planet earth?

Hi Fred, Switch your computer off and remove all power cables attached to it. Take the side panel off and locate the clear cmos/bios jumper. It's usually close to the chip (award bios). If you have a manual for your motherboard you can check it out. Clear the bios by setting the jumper to 1-2 for a few seconds, then short 2-3 for normal operation. When you switch you computer back on go in to the bios setup by holding down the delete key at start-up. Configure the standard settings and go in to advanced settings. Here you can set the CAS latency (Cl cycles) and ROW precharge (trp cycles). Make sure you know what kind of RAM you are using (what Cl). If you give the make and model of your mother board and Ram I can tell you what these settings are. Another thing that may be causing this could be the virtual memory setting in windows. Again I would need to know what operating system you are using. Hope it helps, TT.
Thanks for the quick reply! It is an AZZA KT133av motherboar with XP 2.0 CPU. The memory is 2 sticks of pc133 256mb. I am using windows ME. Also I upgraded the video card to a evga gf4 mx420. I do have the systems board manual. The folks down at the shop I bought it from did basic settings. I'll check the items you suggested. Thanks again. Fred

The meg size showed as 48 megs when I got the information box. I was a little surprised too since the majority of the mesh is straight forward ie cubes, cylinders, etc. However, the high polygons occur in a cube that I turned into a pyramid with an indent at the top. I used 4 of these and grouped the four of them. The count shot up significantly. I'm still very much learning to make meshes so I obviously did something wrong. Fred
TT I did the resets and still get the same problem. lsstrout probably has the right solution. Problem is that on a PC, this is a windows file rather than a convienient setting. Poser and Bryce seem to be using the same file. Amorphium, PS 6.0, RDS 5.5 GMAX doesn't have a problem with the memory. I seem to remember making a change in a file way back when to solve this problem Problem is I don't have my notes. Thanks
You can allocate memory to programs if you are using Windows XP. Press Ctrl,Alt,Delete, the Task Manager opens, go into Processes, right click the process you want to allocate more memory to, go into Set Priority and set it to high. Do not close the Task Manager window just minimize it while the allocated program is running. And there you go, whatever program you allocate the memory to will take over the entire system if it wants.
Check out your virtual memory settings. Control panel/System/Advanced/performance options if not you can use the Help files for locating it. Also known as the page file or paging. Windows uses this file as extra RAM when files don't fit in to RAM. Are you experiencing any lock-ups playing up to date games? If you are, then it's definitely a problem that you have to solve through your bios. If not, check out your virtual memory settings. It's always a good idea to check for any bios updates just in case there are any glitches/bugs that have been sorted out with the bios you are using at the moment. You can update/flash your bios using the link provided from my previous post. That's the official site for your motherboard. Take care when flashing your bios; if you do it wrong you'll end up with a dead motherboard. TT.

I just upgraded my system to an AMD 2.0 with 516 Megs of memory. When I try to import an object into Bryce 4 I get an out of memory error 2/3 of the way into the import. I never had this problem with my AMD 450 with the same memory. Just for the experience, I downloaded the trial version of Bryce 5 to see if I liked it better. I also got the same error. Thinking well the obj file is 48 megs, I tried a much samller object and got the same result. It seems to like files samller than 5 megs in size. My suspicion is that something changed in windows when I put the upgrade in. So far Bryce is the only graphics program that is causing this error. Poser and RDS haven't had any problems and PS works like a dream. Any ideas? Thanks. Fred
