maybe you could add plants to the room, creepers going up the collumns, ferns, that sort of thing, and more vegetation and some rocks outside. I definitely agree with the lighting suggestions, too, the word "grotto" just seems to suggest dim, moody lighting and mysterious things lurking in the shadows.
