Subject: How do you turn this stuff off?

Pete, if these are really animation lines, do the following to "un-animate":
  1. Select the object (or the animated component of an object)
  2. Click the Motion tab
  3. If you see STANDARD (or any animation), change it to NOT ANIMATED.

Do this for all animated objects.
