I tried these 3DS files in Bryce 5, Carrara and Painter3D and all of them loaded with the 2 eye props, as seperate objects. I always hate to say there's a problem with an app I don't have but this looks like it might be a TS problem. This is a Bryce image (note that 3DS does not export smoothing data, so it looks faceted). You might try exporting the head and the eyes as seperate files and try loading them one by one into TS.
