Here's a link to Furry Grand Central, for people who want more information. There is an VERY active furry culture online, including many, many Mu*s and at least two Furry only auction sites. Not to mention miles upon miles of furry artwork. (including mine) ScottA - furry is simply a slang term, and genre name. PhilC - the ears look a mite odd to me. Maybe curve the sides out a bit, like cats ears?

ScottA ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 3:56 PM

Hmmm. Ten Furcent? I think I'm scared now. ;-) Are furry people associated with those people who dress up as animals because it turns them on sexually? I saw a show where people get turned on by dressing up as bunnies, wolfs, etc. and meet other people at conventions and sometimes hook up that way. Is this all related? ScottA

You've not heard of the Bunny Club at the Playboy Mansion? :)

ScottA Yes they are one and the same. Obviously not all furries are into the same things - some just like the online games, some the zines, and some (like me) love the artwork. PhilC Minerva Mink, Josie and the Pussycats .... furries are everywhere. The earlist recorded image of a anthropomorphic animal is -3000 BC.

Oh my. I bet a lot of people don't know about the dark real life side of Furries. To quote the late great Jim Varney: "Eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww"

Charlie_Tuna ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 8:10 PM

Some Furry fen don't want to admit there is a dark side, they know it's there they just wish it would 'just go away' My furry side is a starship command officer :-)

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

More progress. 23,120 faces, so I'm about where I wanted to be. (Vicki is 30,000 and Posette is 15,000). Next a tail or two, then hair. That should be fun :)

Phil are there going to be morphs to make this lady digitigrade rather than plentigrade? very nice modeling on the body - I'm assuming this is all new mesh.

PhilC ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 6:31 PM

digit...what? plenti....who? Explain yourself woman :)

New mesh? .... totally. Morphs? at a minimum comparable with P4, mimic compatible etc. It occupies a similar 3D space to P4 so that there will at least be a chance of those clothes being able to be used. Its not something I'll guarantee but I felt I should make it possible.

Ahh I see yes, thanks.

Having looked through a lot of "Furry Art" I came to the conclusion that some were depicted one way and some the other. I've modeled the figure mid way between the two. The shin is shorter than human so should be able to be scaled to suite both. The foot is modeled at an angle, again to accommodate both. I'll only really know if this works successfully when I complete the jointing tomorrow.

The real challenge, as Lemurtek could attest, is making it work in the Walk Designer.

Looks like your furry will have poseable eyes, PhilC. I can't say the same for mine, although I've had fun sliding the eye textures around in Poser 5's Material Room.

Thanks Charlie_Tuna, this is becoming quite an education. Here now are the two "grades". No scaling applied just a Full Body Morph.

Yes the eyes can be posed. As you will see I've included a very large eyelash mesh. I'm going to try for all morphs to open and close rather than the poseable eyelid. We'll see how it goes.

Walk designer? .... um OK :)

Now some hair. I'm going for the cartoon hair because I think its a cartoon figure. Next, just how much do I put into this package? They are great fun to make, but if this figure is not going to be baught then I have to be sensible with my time. Thought I would add some clothes at least.

OK ivyroses you are on the list :)

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 3:41 PM

Clothing? At the very least, a bikini, for the more puritanical among us. And although many furries go bare-pawed, I'd recommend shoes or boots for the rest, since existing Poser footware won't work on digitigrade characters without considerable retrofitting.

How about whiskers?

She looks great, by the way.

OK all completed. Or at least I have to stop somewhere. If these prove popular then I will add to the series. Where possible I'll ensure that clothing and accessories will be compatible. The body shape is similar to P4 so that there is a chance of her clothing fitting. It is totally original mesh. I've hand drawn the wire frame then applied one level of smoothing. I have not "onion skinned" the P4 figure using a plugin.

In the package there will be:-

  • Two versions of a Foxy Furvette, plantigrade and digitigrade
  • An Easy Pose tail
  • Conforming Bikini Top and Skirt.
  • Chest Morphs which are also Tailored into the clothing.
  • Mimic compatability
  • Sundry other facial morphs
  • Textures and templates.

By way of thanks for the valuable input everyone who has posted above may have a free copy. Please email me at pcooke@philc.net and I'll send you the link. I hope these are up to par and become popular. I sure would like to do more in the series but I have to watch how I allot my time.

Again my thanks.

Hopefully you all have your email notification of new postings set. If you enjoyed Furvette then I'm sure you will adore Gigi.
