THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: What is the latest on Bryce Pro ?

imanwillie ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 4:14 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 11:02 AM

will be able to use movies as mats? particle effects poser integration?

Rayraz ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 4:24 AM

I hope we will. Still no real news :( If only Corel was like the makers of poser... They had a list of new features well before the release of poser 5. Are you sure you can't use animated gif's or avi's as textures? I've never tried it myself, but I always thought it was possible.

Trust me, whenever ANYTHING is known it will be a permanent fixture at the top of this forum header. But no, no news as of yet, still in beta testing. AgentSmith

Make what you will of this thread in the Delphi-Bryce forum by a well known beta-tester.... http://forums.delphiforums.com/bryce/messages/?msg=8723.1

certainly it is possible to animate materials but I have only ever been able to do it as laborious key framing exercise albeit with great results. Am I just a dumbass? or is there a way to use a .mov or avi. as a material as you can in 3DS Max or use a light source as a projector for a movie. I prefer using Bryce to Max obviously but the type of effects you can create using movies as materials is obviously hugely desirable?

What is he saying other than "It's close"?

yes you can use Avi's as textures if you can get each individual frame onto a 2D Square, also you can do the same thing with the light you just have to set the light up and the project it onto something I think it is like useing a gel...But the same thing applies you need to be able to get to each frame so you would need to have a program like MGI Video Wave (I use this one the most)that will let you get into the avi and save each frame...

DigitalSteve ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 6:32 AM

"What is he saying other than "It's close"? " Nothing yet! But this guy has beta'd at least the last 2 versions of bryce. If I rememeber, corel let the beta testers post some test renders a short while before b5 was released. Rest assured, if I find any links I will post them!

foleypro ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 6:36 AM

And it is a very long process of going into each frame of your animation and adding each frame of the AVI...But the results are sweet you just have to play with things...The Biggest draw back is time....Well I got tired of waiting on getting a reply back from Corel on being a BetaTester I must have sent dozens of e-mails and no reply...Well as I have been saying I have been working on a Partical system for my Magical Effects and I must say that it is close I am doing the Paths right now and I pretty much have the Effects done and the Partical system is adjustable from 1 to unlimited Particals but you have to duplicate and replicate them and you can import as Obj and by changeing just the color you can create different effects...Hey granted this is not a partical system like Max or lightwave and them other Highend Software Companies,It is not a dial type of system you need to link and set to path and then play with the settings in the animations but they work great I have used several in my last couple of pics,Check them out and let me know what you think I will be getting this package out to the BetaTesters very soon....This is one reason why I havent been around to much lately and been slack on my postings....

Lol, yeah I remember the B5 test renders. Please inform us of anything if you hear...of anything. With this we at least, most likely, know that we won't have to wait say another 3-6 months. We can drool in anticipation with a little bit more precision now. AgentSmith

Thanks for the comments guys- just confirmed my suspicions. mibbe am not such a dumbass after all. I knew the other techniques, but its essentially a question of time. Quicktime pro will save as an image sequence as will bryce as will poser etc its just the painstaking implementing of one such sequence, never mind several, that can stultify the creative process. But as a means to an end at leats it is achievable. PS some of you gyuys ever look up trueism in the dictionary lol ;-) iman

You don't need to use each and every frame for the material. Use a few frames and Bryce will interpolate the in between frames. The more you use the smoother it'll be but for 30 frame shot all you need are 5 frames (1 per 6 frames). I used this method in my tutorial at the above link.

I just keep wondering how big the price jump is going to be now that it's to be "Pro". I have a sneaking suspicion it may be out of the range of affordability for us hobbyists who aren't independently wealthy. Sure hope that gut feeling turns out to be wrong.

Rayraz ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 2:37 PM

Prices in the market are dropping rapidly. Softimage got cheaper. Maya got cheaper. Mental ray 1,5 is freeware for maya users. I can't imagine Corel raising the price of bryce. It would not be very good marketing if not rather dumb to make a price jump at the moment. But then again. I've never been impressed by Corels marketing techniques. I hope that if I don't think about such a doom-scenario it won't happen :) I'll buy Bryce Pro if it's good and the upgrade price is below $500.

thanks for the info on animated textures. I downloaded some a while back expecting that I would have to apply them frame-by-frame. I couldn't get imageready to split them into frames though so I kind of gave up on that. Here's the link to where I got them if you don't already know about it: http://www.i-tex.de/vid/samples.htm

brycetech ( ) posted Sat, 16 November 2002 at 2:06 AM

to my knowledge, bryce6 is NOT in beta

Erlik ( ) posted Sat, 16 November 2002 at 3:45 AM

So, it's in alpha? Or it's RC or RTM? :-)
