Subject: Quick tutorial for MAT POSE EDIT...

This is to complement Pam's tutorial for Mat Poses since there has been a rash of people asking how to do this.. this is another way using a program in Freestuff Poser Utilities or available at the link.. This may be a long tutorial but I hope it helps. I love this program. First load Mat Pose edit. (it should look like this)

Next open a Character file ( you can also open another MAT Pose but this tutorial is to show you how to create your first MAT POSE)

Choose a character to load.. (for this tutorial I am choosing to load Vicky 2 Click on the name of the character and then press open

The next screen will ask if you want to load morph and pose data as well. For this tutorial we will say no. Click on the no to continue.

Okay one note.. If Matpose calls for extra dll's just click help or go to his website to grab them. Usually they are in windows but .,.. :) they are easy to use and work on Win 98 and XP Pro (that I have found out) Next step.. as you can see you now have all the texture channels and the options. We will load a simple map on to Vicky and set the colors..then I will show you how to do a partial map. :)

Next. Hold down cntrl and then right click on the materials you want to assign textures to first (Since vicky is multi mapped it's easier to do this. You can do it one by one but I find this is faster. ) Select the parts on the head for vicky (SkinHead, Lips, Nostril, Eyebrows, Lacrimal, Eyelashes, Eyewhites, Pupils, Iris, Eyeballs) the innermouth, tongue, and teeth are NOT on the head map so don't select them

Next click the button with three dots ... This will call up your browse window so you can find the map you want to assign to Vicky.

Next find the texture and click on it.. then open it.

Once it is loaded you will see the path in the texture channel. Make sure you click APPLY

Now select your other materials and repeat the steps above, but this time Choose the body map. (inner mouth, tongue, nipples, skinbody, teeth, fingernails and toenails) Remember to click apply

now drag your mouse over the channels and select them all. We will now set the colors. Double click on the color (object Color)

change the color to white. Do the same to the other colors but change them to Highlight color black Ambiant color black Reflection color white.

Now.. for the upper eyebrows. Choose the material channel UpperEyebrows. And move the transparency sliders to 100 or just type in 100 in both Make sure you click apply

now save your mat pose by going to file save as and putting it where you want it. There, You made your first matpose. :) Open poser. Load vicky and apply the mat pose. Then render a image and save a png then use p3do to create your rsr. :) Next time I will show you how to do a partial MAT POSE with this program :) The best part is you don't need to have any other programs to make MAT POSE Edit run. Just the dll's

Thanks Judith *S* Now you have vicky textured and you want to just change the texture on her eyes. How do I do that??? You ask.. easy with this program *S* Choose all the materials EXCEPT Eyewhites, IRIS, and pupil

Next Double click on the words..Object color, Highlight Color, Ambient Color, Reflective Color, Highlight Strength, Transparency Min, Transparency Max, Transparency Falloff, Texture Map, Texture Strength, Apply Texture to highlight, Bump Map, Bump Strength, Reflection Map, Reflection Strength, transparency map. Why you ask? Simple,Because you only want to change the map on the eyes, you don't want to affect the mapping on the rest of the body, so what you are doing by closing off those channels is locking it so it can't be affected. There is no data in those areas, now. They won't be saved with the final MAT pose.

Now what you can do is select the EyeWhite, Iris and pupil channels and apply a texture map, or you can choose each one of those and apply a color, or a transparency, or a reflection map. Or a combination. The same principal can be used for fingernails, or clothing. A partial MAT Pose is great for doing bump maps, or transparencies. You can choose any channel you want and apply wahtever you need without affecting the rest of the channels. (It's that simple as long as you remember to disable the other channels) MAT Pose edit is really simple to use. And really fast and verstile. And a lot cheaper :)

Thank-you so much. I had asked earlier about this, I wanted all the tut I could find for it before I loaded. I found the tut was in the .exe. Now with both these tutorials I should have no problems. Thank-you again. Tashar 59

ooh! I LIKE the ability to change colors like that:-) I had been doing that the hard way with a text editor, but being a visual type person, actualy seeing the color instead of a string of numbers is pretty cool. I may have to start using a combination of my way and this way.

whoa JR - what's up with you dude? lol This is a learning forum remember? Storm was nice enough to share what she's learned with us - and lord knows the 'How do I make a MAT pose' thread pops up every couple of weeks in this forum so the info is necessary. If you don't feel like waiting for the images to load - why don't you just hit the back button on your browser for crying out loud? And MAT Pose Edit is free though there is another similar program available commercially, so no this is not an ad. This is a member taking the time to help out other members. Okay, I apologize- my earlier post (which has been deleted) wasn't meant as a personal attack on the author. You're absolutely right- this is a learning site and some messages have tons of images. It took forever to download this page earlier and I guess I got frustrated. We can all have bad days, right? But, now that all the pictures have been downloaded, I guess I'll have to go get this program and follow the turorial.

Actually, Storm, you don't need to do that. If someone really cared about a long download time, he would skip the threads with lots of images as noted in the message listing.

Thanks a lot Stormrage for this excellent tutorial. I'm too lazy to write proper tutorials and I probably even couldn't make them logical.

However, I'd like to add something to the 7th and 11th messages: You don't have to ctrl-click on each head or body
material, at least not when working with Victoria.
Just click "Victoria.cfg" under the "Material group templates"
title and then select "Head" or "Body" from the "Select material group" combo-box. This way the right materials will be automatically selected. This method works with all Victoria (1 and 2) based characters.

And a note about the 10th message: If you load the texture with the browse (...) button there's no need to press the "Apply" button, only when you've typed the texture by hand in the text field.
These are just minor points but still worth knowing at least if you're making tons of MAT files.

Thanks for helping me. If someone asks me how to use MAT Pose Edit I'll point him/her to this thread.
