Thanks for the feedback. I thought about the change in heights also but I was going for a large field of these things. I was hoping that moving them off into the distance would give the height variant but it didn't as much as I'd have liked. As far as the splashed, I followed the Peter Sharpe tutorial and used a variation for the splashes. The ripples are just symmetrical lattices, duplicated and enlarged to make them flow outward. I applied a standard glass material to them at first, but they didn't pick up the ocean look as well as I liked, so I finally used the same material as I did the ocean. That came out much better.
