Subject: Turning off Selected Object highlighting

Ive sometimes found the red highlighting of selected parts too intense, to the point where it actually obscures the body part when trying to view subtle interactive adjustments. I did just notice that in P4, you can turn off this highlighting in the /Runtime/Prefs/Poser.ini file by changing the value for HILITE_BODY_PART from 1 to 0 prior to launching Poser.

There's an easier way. Uncheck "Figure Circle" under the Display menu. Intuitive, huh? :P

Nance, That's just terrific! With obj files which have a high number of vertices, when you move them, you sometimes get horrible red lines. This has always driven me ga-ga! I just tried it and it gets rid of the red lines completely. Thanks a lot! FyreSpiryt, I always have 'Figure Circle' unchecked, so that doesn't seem to be the problem. The red highlighting is a different beast altogether. mac

Looking at the .ini again, I spotted the last line HIER_EDITOR_SIZE 290 448 Does this mean we can change the size of the Hierarchy Editor? Has anyone tried it? I'd love to have a bigger palette than the current postage stamp. I'm a bit iffy about messing with these things myself, but I suppose I'll have a bash. After making a copy of the .ini just in case. mac mac

I just answered my own question. Yes, it is possible to change the Hierarchy Editor size. HIER_EDITOR_SIZE 290 448 290 is the width and 448 is the height. I changed mine to a height of 700 and it works fine. Good deal, Nance. Now, does anyone know what these lines mean? DRAW_OFFSCREEN 1 QUATERNION_ON 0 mac

QUATERNION_ON 0 is an animation setting. I've been playing with DRAW_OFFSCREEN 1 but haven't found any change. I thought it was ground shadows, but it wouldn't repeat.

Thanks wyrwulf, I ignore all animation stuff as I never use it. But if DRAW_OFFSCREEN 1 is switched on, it must do something. Hmmm...who knows? mac

Most of the lines do appear to set the size and location of the various dialog boxes. Dunno what DRAW_OFFSCREEN is yet either.

A little update: In a later thread, Cage mentioned that the "Figure Circles" method that FyreSpiryt suggested above is for P5, and does not work the same in P4.

Just found something out, myself: If you choose "Color" in the toolbar, and do deformation then, the outlines are gone! The other trick with the poser.ini also works fine, thanks for the hint!

BTW, in Poser 5 the hierarchy editor window can be enlarged and reduced just like any other window - by simply placing the cursor on a borderline, waiting a tad and pulling away. Willy
