For many uses, I find dials easier for precise results.
So while we're wishing, I wish there was a "3 dials" version of the DM tool.
This would only work for relative rotations, absolute values will give you all the problems Eulers have.
Or at least, a DM tool that disables part selection. For example, hold down ctrl if want to pick new part, otherwise, stays with current part.
Holding the shift key will lock the current selection, try that.
On a side note: I could produce gimbal lock in 3dsMax 5, Cinema4D XL7 and a demo version of Maya 3 by simply entering 90 degrees in the y rotation field. 3dsMax even has the bad habit of changing the xyz values after you press the enter key. Face it, as soon as you enter your rotation in x, y and z angles, you will have to deal with gimbal lock, no matter what you use internally.
