If you have Photoshop 7, you can try using the Liquify filter to smooth out those harsh angles. Select the specific area you want to work on, set the "brush" size very low, perhaps as low as 1 pixel, set the mode to "loose" or something like that. Using very subtle nudges, push the angles into more flowing shapes. I use lo-res Michael and Vicky a lot, so this technique comes in handy for rounding off those unwanted hard-angle verticies.
