I'll echo what I said last summer: go to the SCIFI conventions, get invited as a speaker and read from the books or talk about world creation, keep your eyes and ears open... especially at the science panels where mathematicians and physicists talk about the really speculative stuff which just may become tomorrow's reality but meanwhile is in your purview.
