In this example, the emerging rays would be what you see as the bottom of the glass repated, and the reflected rays are what make up the other crud. That is why you can only see part of the bottom repeated toward the top. As refraction increases, so does the critical angle. So in a diamond, i can see more of the bottom than if it were made of glass.
