Oh, when I talk about "Good animation" I don't mean that animation of the eyes on Miss Nancy's character's face isn't good, & it is animated, but I'm thinking more of full animations, not icons or avatars, something with a little length and a purpose. I just wish I could come up with something.
Between these two extremes there is also limited animation as made famous by UPA.

I'm not sure I typically have that, "it's never finished issue". Mostly with the CGI stuff I find myself hitting a brick wall where I just can't make something happen. What I typically do at this point is either work on another section or to find some assistance or training.
My issue at the moment is that I've done most of the simple animation of the props and have to create the movement of the main character the ringmaster. Even what seems to be a simple movement like turning to a table seems to be very difficult to create.
I think what I'll do when I get back in the UK is to start breaking down all of the moves into really small movements and then try some of the easy ones first before trying to put them all together in a sequence. My step to the left, I think I'll leave till later...
I think I'm on the way to finding my motivation again... cheers everyone

> Quote - How do you do an animation in a few minutes?Keep it simple!!
A few of my stop motion films were done in just an afternoon, I nicknamed them "Speed Animation". The exception was the Ratobat film that was filmed in an afternoon but took about 16hours to colour correct and edit together.

Quote - I've been reading "Timing for Animation" (Harold Whitaker & John Halas).
Yes, a top book. I've got two copies as they changed the cover and hence did not recognise it when I bought the second one.

I find using sound in Carrara is of limited benifit given that the only export format that supports it is Quicktime.

Here's a quick list I've put together of some Carrara stuff just found on Youtube.

Don't worry, I've filtered out all of the marble and motorcars.

Thread: animated transparency map | Forum: Carrara
I'd recommend a very long and thin box rather than a plane for this but it should work. Don't forget the tick boxes for totally transparent in the shader.

I may have a similar problem, I spotted that I've got several copies of some shaders and the "remove unused" does not seem to work with them. I've not had chance to investigate it.
I frequently transfer objects between scenes both by dragging and by export / import

Quote - hey that swap is a good idea, though. I'd LOVE to be able to swap between the director camera and the shooting camera with a click of keystroke.::::: Opera :::::
You can do this with the mouse and you don't need swap, click on the menu top left of the viewport to switch cameras. I've setup some scenes with 5 cameras and then just change my director camera to take the settings from each of the others.

Yes, the point at modifier works nicely with lights. If you use the technique above to set the position of the camera, you can then save that and return too it at a later date.
Here's an example of the PointAt modifier with 3 lights.

I was origionally using Cognito to drive some hidden cubes. I've swapped to using looping NLA as it was easier to control the positions.
Thread: Denim carrara shader needed | Forum: Carrara
Here's a very simple procedural example of a denim shader you could add more layers to make it more interesting.
