Quote - Yes, changing the pattern size is easy - there's a parameter for it. There are three actually.
Pattern Size = width of each pattern unit
Pattern Softness = alters the shape and overlap of the pattern units
Bump Value = depth (amount of displacement) of each pattern unitHere I boosted the Pattern Size and Bump Value, and decreased the Pattern Softness.

Thanks for eating all my spare time this week, BB :0) I'm fascinated with the reptile material, and have been applying it to way too many things (photos eventually). I found "Pattern Size" (listed as "Pattern Scale"), and Bump's easily found - they are both on the first row as you laid them out.
I can't find "Pattern Softness" among the however many nodes on the Reptile Mat though. Does it end up with another name in the latest version/update of Poser8? Anyone find it?
But seriously. Thank you ALL, and especially BBm for all the excellent stuff you share, even if I have to get my Mech. Engineer major son to explain some of the math.

I agree with Blackhearted and leather-guy--did before I read their posts. I can lighten cheeks in post, but it's harder to add color. GrayMare
Thread: A question for the "texture guru's" | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Assuming this is a render, and the lines aren't just pre-render goofiness, make sure your texture overlaps the edges of the template, as the templates are rarely perfectly aligned. The bare spots are probably the "skin" on the ankle in the boot rather than a texture problem. Use the hierarchy editor to turn off the feet/shins on the poser actor and see if they go away. GrayMare

Tim--you could sell license to modify your free textures too. Sort of a "developer's kit" commercial license. That would be low-effort to get up and running. I'd like some skin or clothes textures for Poser Dork too. My wife and kids are starting to look funny at the predominantly female images I'm creating :) GrayMare
Thread: Poser 4 RAM help PLEASE!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My .02 on this thread: The literature has been saying for years that Win9x (95/98/ME) kernel handles memory badly, and that over 128 with 95/98 can actually increase problems. I had ME on this machine with 512mb, and had lockups regularly. Knowing my 2000 dual machine running as a "server" wasn't having problems, I still put off upgrading, hoping XP would be out before I got fed up, but a week ago lost my temper and upgraded to 2000. The lockups are no more. XP "consumer" will have the NT/2000 kernel and should handle memory better than this, even. I'm gonna upgrade as soon as I can, because this 180 day trial of 2000 will be over eventually :P I think Poser compounds the 9.x kernel memory problems by not releasing memory effectively, especially after it closes. I had regular hard lockups on exit of Poser with ME. Those are gone too. This system is a AsusBE6-2/PIII-750/512mbPC-133 Name brand RAM with a Voodoo3000/16mb card, all latest drivers. BTW, I helped things even more by installing a small (2gb) 10,000RPM SCSI drive this weekend (already had the card installed for my CD burner and another drive) and running my swap file on that. Nice to have "scrap" stuff to bring home from the discard bin at work, huh? You could do the same by picking up a cheap small drive (try stores like Computer Rennaissance) and using it on a spare IDE port, if you have space. GrayMare

Isn't that Sakari? That's a beautiful character, and a really well done portrayal/render. Wish I had the cash... GrayMare
Thread: Upcoming from 3D Menagerie (just when you thought the eagle couldnt get better) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Bloodsong: Do you expect the set to need the eagle, or to include all the geometry, like the Antelope set? I never really understood the story behind the expansion pack not needing the Buck anyway... I truly love the 'lopes. It's one of the best deals for the money I have found, in a field with excellent pricing for the work required. GrayMare
Thread: 3D scythe model? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have a "scythe.zip" I got from somewhere that's a 3ds file. The readme says: "Curt Barrett Trimax www.angelfire.com/oh/chainsandlinks trimax@rocketmail.com" Try there. I got it in hopes of using with a Diablo2 render, but haven't used/installed it yet. Hope this helps. GrayMare
Thread: Transfering Poser to new HD question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Funny you'd ask this right now. I spent yesterday doing exactly this, as I just installed a scsi drive on my machine. What egru suggests worked perfectly for me, using Windows (shouldn't matter which version). Copy (not move) all your Runtime folders to a temp location on the new drive, folder by folder is best, because sometimes a huge move will time out. Uninstall/reinstall/patch Poser. The uninstall should not (didn't for me) delete stuff you put in the Runtime folder yourself, so you have a backup. Replace the existing runtime folders with the copied ones. If you copied them to the new drive instead of CD or another drive, it'll only have to change the "pointer" in the File allocation table, not copy the files, so this will be really fast. Open Poser and test random things to make sure it's working. Clean up your old drive. There will still be a Program Files/Curious Labs/Poser directory with tons o' stuff. You can save it until you're sure everything got copied, or go ahead and delete it--your call. Good luck GrayMare

I've been playing with Storm's idea on animals, trying to get "fur", without the heavy polys of individual strands. So far, it's been with very mediocre results. I've done the same thing with eyes on the P4 human models--put a transmapped sphere over it to get some appearance of moisture...a cheap way to do what vicky already does. GrayMare
Thread: Zee first look - zee Mermaid's hair! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I actually like the sparseness here. Just put a "cap" on the head and make it part of the hair file. Part of what I don't like about many hair props/files/pieces/whatever you want to call them is that they end up being too solid all over because you don't want to make the head look bald. I think "LinLin's" version of Kozaburo's hair does a great job of solving this and allowing easier mapping of the hair at the scalp vs on top and at the ends. GrayMare

It seems that a second layer of transmap/texture map would let you do this, as I believe someone stated that the artists used in "Shreck". GrayMare
Thread: New furniture - Prop for Poser. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It's beautiful work with good detail. I would buy it as part of a set of items, but have found that smaller items (in terms of use, not necessarily in terms of effort on the modelers/texturers part) are less cost effective individually than in groups of items, so rarely buy them individually. Can't speak for the Netscape crowd, but the "pencil" instructions are really great, and hysterically funny. GrayMare
