Thanks. Yeah Apache is a web server software so, it is definitely a problem on their end. I sent them a note. I did coerce my Vue5 to use the built in update option, and it seemed to have downloaded, but didn't run, which is why I wanted to download the Vue5 update manually. If you were there today and didn't have any problems, perhaps it is because normally the site uses a cookie to remember you so you don't have to login each time. I recently got a new computer and so have to login to all my sites again. Oh well I am sure it will get resolved soon enough. Thanks for the replies, they were helpful. -Paul

Sweet!! Finally can get Hex. Question if anyone has purchased: When you purchase from DAZ are you getting downloads to PC and Mac version? Regards, Paul

Thread: DOT HAMN! I found an EXCELLENT deal on Carrara!! | Forum: Carrara
Eovia only sells upgrades direct. If you are finding a price that low on Carrara 5 Pro, it is likely pirated software because that price is far below actual reseller cost. Buyer beware. Perhaps they are closing it out? I can't see a huge company like Amazon selling pirated software... But I also noted that shipping time is 1 to 2 weeks, suggesting they don't have it in stock? Paul

Thanks Much. I have tried D/S and I like it. Of course I really liked the last version of Poser I had, Poser 4. I just never got around to upgrading and eventually sold it on eBay. Thanks for the comments, Paul

Thanks ren_mem. I did compare the differences and I am still leaning towards standard as I really don't think I would need/use the pro features. They made a couple of the features of C4Pro part of C5 standard so that is cool. I think it will be a great jump going from 3 to 5 regardless of Pro/Standard. I also want to get Hexagon and learn to use that. So I think between the two apps, you have a pretty good set of 3D tools that's tough to beat. Regards, Paul
Thread: Lowest Carrara Prices Yet | Forum: Carrara
I got this message too. And the upgrade price for me from C3 would be $79. That is a screaming deal. But a question: I am a hobbyist at best and rarely at all anymore. The price jump to get to pro is $229. Compared to what I use now in C3, would C5 Standard be a good choice? Are the few extra bells and whistles in Pro worth it for a hobby type user? I am sure it depends on what your needs are but I don't really know what the Pro features would get for me and if I would use them? Any thoughts? Thanks, Paul
Thread: Initial iMac 1.83 Intel Core Duo report. | Forum: Carrara
arcady, This is not much different from back in 94/95 when they switched over to the first PowerPC RISC chips. They had an emulation layer to run non-native applications on the newer systems. The same thing happened back then as the new hardware ran the non-native applications slower then the previous hardware. It wasn't long before developers caught up. As for learning a new SDK, developers don't have to do this. If there app uses the Cocoa framework and is developed with XCode, it is a simple matter to compile it as a universal app. The web browser experiment I wrote, compiles as Universal with absolutely no code changes... The problem is that a lot of developers don't use Apples Development Tools and use the Carbon API instead of Cocoa. This presents more of a challenge to get a universal binary as they first have to port their code to Cocoa and that is not always an easy or short fix. My guess is that Carrara and many other 3D apps are using Carbon and possibly Code Warrior so they can develop cross platform. These type of apps are going to require a bit of time to change over. Regards, Paul

Those arent too bad considering the translation overhead and Carrara being a complex app. As a test I did a Lava render on my Dual G5 1.8, 1GB RAM and lava took 59 sec. So if Carrara was native intel, I think the new iMac would beat it. Regards, Paul

Classic! I haven't seen the joke so I can't comment on that, but the modeling is great. Is it just me or does the egg have a nice egg like surface to it, if that makes sense? It looks nice.

Thread: C4 New Lower prices.... 5.0 soon? Hmmm... | Forum: Carrara
Are these new discounts good deals? I realize C4 has much to offer over C3, but every version has driven the price higher. I don't remember what the original prices were for C4... Regards, Paul
Thread: Carrara 5 release! | Forum: Carrara
I am in the same boat as you, Pinklet, as I too am stuck with 3 for now. Gone are the days I could upgrade all my software on day one of a new release. Cash is tighter these days, what with inflation hitting all areas of the economy and wages still not keeping up... Anyway, hopefully 5 will have some really cool new features and be bundled with Hexagon instead of Amapi. I missed that whole $99 intro price for Hex and if I had known it was at that price, I surely would have bought it. But alas, I was out of town and when I got back the deal was over. Note to eovia: if you bring back that $99 deal, or send me a coupon, I know you will get at least one new sale! ;-) Regards, Paul

So now you are a Psychologist too? So Dr. InfoCentral what do you say about people that bring up questions about you or ask you questions and you dodge them on a regular basis? What kind of defense mechanism is that? hehe Paul

Shonner: That's not what I think. Quote me all you want. It is how he did it that offended me. He didn't just quote me. If I went and took bits and pieces of your previous years postings and pieced things together and bent them to fit an argument, then that would be an attack. Anyone that would go through all the trouble of trying to find specific posts like this is looking to either start a flame, or to troll. Nothing I said warranted such a post. Sorry Shonner you can judge my response however you want, but for the most part I have been nothing but supportive of this forum and have tried to be courteous. Do you really think the way InfoCentral responded to me and others is really courteous? Regards, Paul
