Quote - Seemed very obvious to me, many pages of "you're a poopiehead" "you drink pee" and presto, thread became locked. Just because you're allowed to advertise your product here to the extent you already are - and imo, it's a lot, but they tolerate it so whatever - doesn't mean any thread containing a reference to it is holy ground. Karen did her job, and imo the only thing she could have done better was to have been more aggressive about it and less tolerant.
I am sorry that I brought up the subject. It is really true that people here are simply incapable of NOT making anything into a personal attack (see above). Your note, alas, is not addressing my question: censor comments or entire threads?
I am off this thread because I don't see a chance of a measured and dignified discussion to develop about the guiding (and hopefuly democratic) principles of these forums.
Lesson learned.
Thread: Faceshop Pro thread closed by staff after degenerating into a flamefest | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I can see this thread is off to a GREAT start!
I am sorry - I am not uncivil or controversial. I just want to know what the principle is behind this closure. I do belive that personal attacks should be censured - I am just curious whether it should take the form of banning the offending comments or the form of a collective punishment.
If the latter was the case, any miscreant could shut down any thread at will - which just does not seem right.
I would politely ask anyone who cares to answer this post to be as measured as I am and stick to the subject matter without getting into personal attacks.

Quote - I just read the last two pages. No wonder it's closed to new posts.
Nit-picking and hair-spliting never achieves much IMO.
Still, it seems to me that one should eliminate the offending comments and not the entire thread with all the good info in it.
It just doesn't make sense.
If someone post something that is against the rules (or good taste), it should not cause dozens of other people to suffer the consequences as a collective punishment, ne ces't pais?
Again, the thread had great art and good info. How will people access these?

There are now four videos showing how the process of working with Poser and FaceShop works. It also deals with the issue whbos brought up:
How to place dots and curves effectively.

There are about 2,000 FaceShop users currently and the number is rapidly growing. The reason why I think a separate forum would be appropriate is that FaceShop is NOT just a Poser tool; it can be used with 3DS Max, Studio, Rhino, Maya, Sahed, etc - all apps that read OBJ files.

Thread: Faceshop pro opinions? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - This might have something to do with ef. Doesn't Laslov work for them? Director of something?
mickmca, did you buy this or are you just guessing without any real knowledge.
I will agree that it needs an SR or 2 but it does work as any other tool. You need to learn it.
I'm guessing that this is ef's way of getting the face room to work with most other figures and with Daz figures in mind. Also to DS users. Smart when you think about it.
Good catch.
Laslov USED to work for ef as the Director of Marketing, but much to his relief left ef several months ago.
Cheers,
Laslov

Quote - > Quote - IBoth versions were on sale for half price. So the pro version was under $40 if bought then.
yup yup... what he said right up there. And you know what I wasnt following the poser export / import to FSP / export to the head of the figure you initially exported as a obj. The vertices problem was me not pushing the button that displays the obj in wireframe form. Evidentally thats the only reason that button is there and me being the brain surgeon probably pushed every single other button except the right one.
I think CLOTHER looks cool but not for the price if its going to be slapped together like this FSP program. I mean sure it does some cool stuff but very little in the way of moving ahead in leaps and bounds. More like inch by inch trickin suckers like the grinch. CLOTHER and CLOTHIM looks like they would save alot of time dressing their users figures. Doing away with scrolling through endless folders in poser5,6 and 7. Cuzz I spend alot of time looking for certain props clothes ,ect and 1/2 the time dont find them until a week later when I'm working on another model or scene. Pisses me off.
**Hey Methhead,
Even people who normally are NOT brain-surgeons may be tempted to write a correction/retraction after they find out that they did not read the manual and flamed a program in a nasty way as the result.
A matter of decency...**
Thread: My new passion ... lookalike morphs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Where do you get this face shop program?
I've been wanting to do a morph of Sanaa Lathan for a while now, to use with V4, but I haven't had much luck dialing her morphs. I've gathered over 60 reference photos of her off the net, but it doesn't seem to matter since I can't get even reasonably close.
Sanaa Lathan, for those who aren't familiar with her, starred in Alien Vs Predator, and more recently played Michelle in Season 4 of Nip/Tuck. She was also Blade's mother in the first Blade movie, and has been in a handful of other films and tv shows.
Personally I think she's by far one of the most beautiful african-american women in hollywood. (I'm REALLY hoping she returns as Michelle on Nip/Tuck next season).
YOU can buy FaceShop and FaceShop Pro at DAZ (http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=5259&cat=362) or soon here at Rendo.

Quote - It claims to work from one photo - so I tried it that way.
I'm using a brand new system here - less than a month old - XP SP2 latest updates - it has few very apps on it.
Install is simple enough - programme starts OK.
Took a few crashes and freezes before it seemed to settle down and the process was simple enough to follow.
The results however are virtually useless - the resulting texture map from 1 photo is very poor.
Worse still the exported .OBJ won't load as a morph in Poser - you get wrong number of vertexes error. If you import the OBJ into poser then it still looks like Mike (post 2).
Overall useless - waste of $40 - I'm asking for a refund after posting this.
Hi there,
Have you tried to read the manual yet? Do you understand that there's a difference how you use this product with Poser (pages 35-39) and with Studio (pages 39-41)?

Quote - I'm a glutton for punishment.
I have Face Shop Pro. I've never asked for a refund for ANYTHING before, but this steaming pile may be a first. The changes it makes to your imported mesh are absolutely miniscule, and the textures it creates/extracts are almost always worthless, even with what should be considered a ‘perfect’ reference photo. If you’re looking for quality results, no amount of time or effort within this program will lead to it. Just take a look at the shots they are using for promotional purposes! Bleh!
I've had FaceGen for a while (since before I bought Poser), and while fun, is not really suitable for serious Poser modelling. The resulting meshes and textures are far too low-res/low-detail for practical use. I don’t know if the software has improved since I used it though, so don’t take this as gospel.
This is all very sweet, ClawShrimp!
Why don't you also mention that THERE ARE tons of great images created with this "steaming pile"? Let people know that they can look at this thread http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=851068#851068 or this http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=851043#851043 to see cool art!!
There's even an impromptu "Celbrity Look-alike Contest" at DAZ with great images at http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=57975
