No problem, glad to be of help. We were all learning once, including me and I still am learning.
Thread: Preview Render | Forum: DAZ|Studio
You don't really cancel it, you simply switch to one of the other options in the list. Usually it's the default of Texture Shaded but whichever one suits what you want to do.

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and yes, it does suck when that happens.
Thankfully they've improved the preview enough now that I can keep it on for posing and lights etc with my GTX 970. I still use Texture Shaded for setting up but then I don't really need an Iray preview at that point. The latest Daz Studio is the best yet for previewing.

Bit late replying but if you mean 'How do I see an Iray preview in the viewport window', i.e. without starting a render then there is an option for it. Look at the top right corner of the viewport (not the whole screen) and you'll see the grey bar that allows you to select cameras and various other views. Just to the left of this there should be a symbol (probably a circle/sphere) with a small arrow underneath. Click that and a list of options pops up with 'Nvidia Iray' at the bottom. Select that and you are a go. Bear in mind that you will need some kind of light source to see anything and it takes a reasonable beefy machine to keep it on full time. It can get bogged down and appear to be doing nothing sometimes, so use it as you see fit. If you do find it a bit much I recommend what the other poster said about setting up a small aux viewport and setting that to Iray as I described, leaving your main viewport at default or whatever.

@Iwaves 50' would be 50 minutes using the long, lat degree system, It's not usually used for time though as far as I am aware.
Cheers. Here in the UK using 50' would usually indicate 50 feet in the older imperial measurements, as in 6'1" being 6 foot and 1 inch. But yeah, 50 minutes for a render isn't too long, without knowing what their system specs are.

If they so easily do it when one calls them, why can't they do it for everyone without having to call?
Laurie
They do it that way because if you call and go through with it, they get remote access to your computer. Access that will be logged and stored by MS. But if you Googly it you can get the solution that way too and without MS's grubby hands on your system. :-)
Thread: i13s Modern Loft Night Lighting | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Hard to say as it depends on your exact scene and the look you want to achieve. The image you posted is actually a great example. Look at where the lights are in that and sort of copy it. A decent night time HDRI might do the job, especially if you have a lot of windows. Or a very bright light to simulate the moon (same as in the loft image). If areas are still too dark after that you could put some small, dim lights dotted around those areas. That also depends on if you want moonlight only. But ultimately the best thing you can do is muck around with tone mapping, either as it renders or after. This can drastically change how an image looks and can bring life to a dull scene, make lights brighter and details clearer. I can't tell you which settings, so you'll have to muck around with them. Good luck.

50' ?? What is that? Fifty minutes, fifty hours?
At a guess, you're using trees so shadows are probably your problem. They'll be a lot of them in amongst the leaves and branches. Don't think there's really much you can do but if you don't need the tree shadows you could try turning them off for that object. Never done it myself but I've heard of others doing it with hair (especially fibrehair).

you see a beautiful girl and you think "Is she G2 or more G3?"
As a follow on to this....
....and you spend the time before you get home figuring out which dials, skin and hair you can use to recreate them.
Thread: Christina Hair Cap Question | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I just checked this and it's not an issue with the hair itself. But you can select the hair, go into the surfaces tab and select just the cap. Then set the Opacity (for 3DL) or Cutout (for Iray) slider to zero. That will make it invisible.
Thread: Why is Daz Studio 4.8 so slow rendering? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
@drifterlee I take it you've ticked the checkbox to tell DS to use your Nvidia card? It's under Render settings and then the advanced tab, the same place you swap between Iray and 3Delight. Make sure your GPU is selected because it isn't by default. You can't really compare Poser Pro 2012 render times to Iray render times as they are completely different engines. Firefly in Poser is comparable to 3Delight, Iray is comparable to the newer Supafly in Poser. One thing I've read about PBR's like Iray is that the more lights the better for speed. Darker scenes will take much longer. But you could always try with just an HDRI background. That shouldn't take too long for a couple of figures.
Thread: Daz 4.9 vs 4.8?? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I stopped using 3Delight the day after Iray appeared, so I can't testify to any improvements there. But Iray seems much more stable to me, maybe even slightly quicker. It can handle significantly more figures in a scene (roughly 2or 3 in 4.8 to 7 or 8 in 4.9) and using Iray to preview in the viewport is much more responsive. In fact the whole program seems more stable. In 4.8, GenX2 would usually crash when loading a figure into it for the first time, that doesn't happen with 4.9. Another advantage is that the database is significantly quicker when showing content, Even massive directories take only a second instead of several.
It's also worth bearing in mind, as there is a lot of confusion and mis-information about this, but you don't have to use Daz Connect or even see it. You can carry on with DIM or manual installs just like with 4.8. There is no need to sign in or send them any details. It will all work perfectly well in offline mode and that's what I'm using.
Thread: Basic L Ray Questions | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Does IRay automatically handle SSS or do I have to turn it one like in Poser?
Depends on the texture/material you have applied to the character. If you use a material built for Iray then you shouldn't need to do anything (unless you want to tweak). If it's other materials you will need to set it up and use appropriate values. But there are a couple of default materials included with 4.8 that will get you most of the way so all you need to do is tweak the settings. You can also set up your figure with a non-Iray material, ctrl-click an Iray skin material to apply it, choose ignore, and then you get those Iray settings on your current material. "How long do I have to let an IRay render run to get smooth skin? No speckles."
Speckles?? Do you mean fireflies?
It's impossible to answer. How long is a piece of string? How big is a hole?
It depends on how quick your CPU is, what you have in your scene, what you are doing in that scene in regards to lights, shadows, SSS, caustics etc etc. You could try messing around withe the render settings, change the quality, max samples, make sure the firefly filter is enabled. But if most of those are increased, then so is render time.
Thread: Jul 4th coupon discount error | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Okay this has been resolved and it turns out that it was my own cock-up. When I was sending the details to Jenn, I noticed that one of the three items was already on sale. I feel like a fool now for something s simple. That explains the discrepancy in the discount.
I have now ordered all three items, with the July 4th coupon applied to the remaining two and all went well, so all is good. :)
Thanks to Jenn for her help.
@galaxiefilm
Strange, I use Firefox and PayPal and have never had a problem here, including tonight. But even if I did, I wouldn't touch IE with a disinfected barge pole, held by a robotic arm, whilst in a lead lined room, wearing the highest grade radiation and disease protective suit. LOL.
