Tom, happy to see yours faired much better than mine this year.ย (Dirty Rat Snake in my gallery)
I have learned to keep the doors on my out buildings closed during nesting season and block a couple of small openings to my screened front porch.ย I have also built a couple of nesting sites which they have used. Any cozy sheltered spot is game for them.ย ย I didn't know about the multiple nest fact,ย I had wondered why they disappeared from the nest in my water softener for a short period.

I have been pleasantly surprised at the attention "Levitation" received after its post,ย And being a selection in LWITG is icing on the cake.ย Thanks for recognition.ย
And ย btw, I am still cleaning splatters off of my camera...

Great topic Tom.
Upon futher review.
Based on some further reading I am guessing that the soldering iron glow isย NOT thermal but falls into the very narrow range of the IR spectrum(below 1000 nm's, which is the range of a camera sensor too)ย that is considered not to be emitted by the heat of the object.ย ย I ran across a couple of articles that finally whacked me in the head and got my attention.ย And I suppose this is where, in my mind, where it is confusing because that soldering iron is hot but this part of the spectrum the light will not heat. ย I think it must have something to do with the time/space continuem.ย Where's Q when you need him?
Seems my example was a bit misleading, but still shows that if the object is hot enough your that camera will detect more infrared.
I have developed a headacheย thinking about itย so I am going back to my original hypothesis.ย ITS MAGIC!!!!!!
Anyway, its a great way to another view of things.

I think this link shows how IR relates to heat, it just takes a different type of image sensor to see the lower levels of emission. Its take a pretty high temperature to generate the IR light our digital cameras see, such as the sun or my solding iron. This picture was taken with an r87 IR filter, iso 400, f2.8. 1.5 secs. The working temperature of the tip is 700 degrees F. with no visible light to my eyes in a totally dark room.ย My camera gets a little noisy with these settings.Thread: LWitG Week 10 | Forum: Photography

Your furry friend seems to enjoy the IR experience.ย Need to win the lotto so I can try all the neat lenses.ย That website is not dial up friendly though.ย

kort, a vicious circle, the camera guys spending a lot of money trying to get rid of all UV and IR and a bunch of other guys spending a lot of money trying to get it back.ย ย I guess I am on the other guys list...
Hey Tom, dont know how many stops it is, only that it is a few more than an IR filter like the R72.ย Hope you can capture something to show us.

I kinda like how this came out.

I usually just stick to the green grass white balance, but it looks like I should be trying a sample of many when I am shooting...
