hborre posted at 3:23 PM Tue, 26 March 2024 - #4482902If anything it's even more relevant now than it was in 2010 with existing approved promo images that were PG at most being re-classified as 'Mature Content' by DAZ's own Artificial Ignorance (AI) bot. However the censorship question is still relevant today. You do realize that you are responding to a question that was asked over 20 years ago.
When I last counted on my fingers & toes, 2010 was some while ago, but some slight 'sales & marketing' might have been going on to turn 14 to 20 ;)

Flying drones & RC Model aircraft is getting progressively more difficult in the UK.
It appears that the Civil Aviation Authority has woken up to a miniscule threat and over-reacted.
As usual.
Drones can fly, so they WILL be used as weapons to bring down civil aircraft every day without fail all over the country unless a paperwork safety net is created. So.. A license is needed to fly any small flying vehicle over 250g/0.5lb (I think that's the cutoff). A criminal record check is required and then each flying vehicle has to be registered. My dad made model aircraft in the 1950's from balsa & tissue paper and has kept them going since - and some of his planes are original despite the crashes he's had. These aircraft now are perceived as lethal threats to life, limb and can/will be used to destroy the containment on a nuclear power station. A 1.5kg/3lb balsa and tissue glider with a 12ft wingspan. It's insane. It's the sort of stupid knee jerk bureaucratic response that makes life nearly impossible for the law abiding and doesn't affect the sort of people whom it's supposedly aimed at stopping. If you are out to spread terror, would you be bothered with getting a license or a criminal record check?

I also wonder if their location in a city founded to be the focal point of a religion doesn't also play a part. In the UK Canterbury tends to be somewhat 'prim & proper' too.

Think I'll play with my toys here. At least all the adverts are relevant to the package I'm using, and rarely quite as sleazy and second rate as the ones currently appearing on the DAZ Forum.

As a bit of a dinosaur, I must admit I use DS4.21 in pretty much the same way as I did DS0.7. The new rendering capability of iRay is nice, but 3DL could do good stuff with effort and attention to detail. LiquidRust showed that years ago (see this 3DL image (https://www.renderosity.com/gallery/items/1040363/testing-lips-and-eye-relfections)). The controllers like 'Right Fingers Grip' save time, but they don't mirror at all, so this is useless for someone like me producing occasional pose sets - and makes me keep on being a dinosaur. The problems that so many have with DIM loaded content and DAZ Central content has convinced me to install stuff the same way I did for DS 0.7 - manually. That way I know who's at fault if it doesn't work. Also, not using the content databases means that I can move stuff around to suit my organisation method.
I am unconvinced by G9. It appears to be worse than G8 for everything except portrait close-ups. G8 Clothing & hair seem to fit G9 worse and more erratically than G3 fits G8, especially after a save & exit then re-load. The joints look like rubber and few PA's seem to be able to get decent muscle definition from the base mesh and rely excessively on HD morphs to get the details already present in the G8 base mesh - it's just ridiculous to make such a massive backwards step while pretending it's a step forwards. I rather feel G9 is a case of the Emperor's New Clothes, people unwilling to admit they've made a mistake. I look forward to G10. Maybe one or two lessons will have been learnt, even if the problems have never been admitted/acknowledged.
As for the skimpwear. That, I fear, is likely to be an enduring feature of all figure animation/rendering programs. Early 20's female characters are much easier on the eye than grumpy old men like me. Take a look at TV adverts, and assess whether 'Early 20's Females' are over-represented (regardless of ethnic origin). I think you will find they are, and these early 20's females will enhance the image/animation/product in an attractive way - it's all described as the 'Halo Effect'.Â

Richard.

OK, so it's not just due to my PC hating me. OK, thanks. I'll sit tight & wait till it all works again.
Thread: Daz vs poser | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I'd have to say that at their best DS & Poser images are comparable in how incredible they are. It's at the 'average' standard where I think DS makes 'average' images look better than Poser 'average' images. I'm not sure if it's due to better artists or better 'out-of-the-box' assets. My history: I started with Poser 4, moved on to DS 0.7 after realising how dreadful Poser 5 was, and gave up at DS 1.2 because my PC was too feeble. Only came back to DS 4.10 in 2019 and now have to stick at 4.15 due to hardware driver issues with the out of date OS.

Can I suggest you look on PoserDazFreebies. There are cross references to many items in the V3 wardrobes, and hopefully there will be links to the Waybackmachine already filled out for you. I too think many items are lost, but you may get lucky.

As a result of these, I have gone to Adblocker Pro as the browser for my Android device. It has made the experience considerably more pleasant. The only downside is I can't upload freebies from it, so need to subject myself to the unpleasantness for that single function.

I am being seriously repelled by the ads. For some reason the ones on my Android device are in Spanish, a language I have never had any knowledge of. I am, with reluctance, prepared to put up with the tacky and unpleasant Hameleon ads within Renderosity, but having anything else is beyond the pale. I cannot load adblockers to my PC at work, so that means no Rendo at work during lunch break, and unless I can get it to work on my android device, that is the end of Rendo for me.
Thread: DAZ Forum down hard? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Hmm. When I was involved in a forum as a mod I saw a major failure. We had a serious database problem. We replaced the front page with an apology page explaining the problem, and redirecting all error pages there too. Also we put up a roadmap of what we needed to do and dates and times and estimated completion times against each, and then actual achievement dates as they were achieved. That way the forum users were kept informed. What a novel idea.

woodkz71's Building accommodation is a worthy featured freebie. It's an incredible model, but to offer it as a freebie is incredibly generous.
