Thread: What is art...or better yet what do you think art is.... | Forum: Bryce
I know what you mean about the Top 20, Loneglyph. In fact, I remember seeing some worthless piece of art called "Amazing Stick Boy" in there. 1398 viewings! :) Seriously, thought, I agree with your assessment that art is art if it moves one. Sometimes, that emotional movement is a negative one, as with the crucifixes in jars of urine and such, but there you go.

After careful consideration, this month's challenge is (drum roll): Puns and cliches! Just make an image based on a well-known saying or term, or give us a groan-inducing visual pun (lame example follows). The comic possibilities are virtually endless. The opportunities to use Bryce's model-import capability and/or primitives are wide open. With the wide variety of source material, this should be doable (and yet challenging) for Brycers of every stripe. For extry added fun, don't tell us your pun or cliche; let us try to figure it out based on your artistic brilliance! Here's a pun site for inspiration: http://www.bigpuns.com/puns/ and a cliche finder site: http://www.westegg.com/cliche/random.cgi

Yikeroonies! Shades of the last presidential election! Thanks, Ken, and others for the votes. I will post a challenge subject later this afternoon --I have two or three ideas, and it'll just take a little contemplation to choose the right one...

Some great entries here, and clearly a lot of imagination and work. In the end, my vote goes to deci6el for outstanding use of light and texture.
Thread: What is depth of field | Forum: Bryce
Thanks, rockjockjared. However, I'm Montana born and bred. It was just a silly image in my head for a possible challenge if I ever should win the chance to dictate the subject: visual puns. As an example, I created the --snicker-- "Texas Panhandle." But I've been to Texas! Does that count?

This is an example done in Bryce 5. Depth of field is basically using your virtual camera like a real one and focusing in on a particular part of an image, causing the rest of the image to blur. To the best of my knowledge, it can't be done purely in Bryce 4; you need an image editor like Photoshop to add the blur. The way I always did it was to render the image, then select the object I wanted to focus on and do a mask render. Then, in Photoshop, load that mask and apply a gaussian blur to the rest of the image. I'm sure others can illustrate and explain it better than I. But take my word for it: I like it a lot better in Bryce 5, and even though I tend to overuse it right now (because it's so dang COOL), I'd have to say that even normal usage of the feature makes it worth upgrading to B5 for me.Thread: User Leaf Example | Forum: Bryce
Awww... you beat me to it! If you figure out how to plant it, could I have a cutting to start my own grove?

I was in the same boat, and the need to get something done --and still feel as though I was trying something new as opposed to just coasting-- pretty well dictated that my scene be a recreation rather than a re-imagining. I had a doozy in mind for a re-imagining, but the scope was beyond my scheduling abilities. I'll tell you what it was... when the deadline's past!
Thread: Curious `bout CG animation? You must look at this! (Inspiration in general) | Forum: Bryce
I was, of course, kidding. I find this animation, as well as "Duality," more inspirational than intimidating --but intimidating nonetheless, for it does point out just how far I have to go...

Holy CRAP! I feel like throwing my silly, amateurish animations away now. Why try? :) Thanks for the heads up!
