Thread: this has probably been talked about before: pentium vs. athlon? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I seem to recall a recent thread here in which some Athlon users with certain other configurations or apps were having P5 problems. I'll be searching the forum on that, as I'm also considering upgrading. Also, Intel just introduced the 2.4 GHz chip at the beginning of the month, so price cuts should be working their way through the supply chain (though I would guess AMD will adjust accordingly).

Some of the threads I have been reading in the past week seem to suggest that CL was in the position of "ship or die." I don't know for a fact that this was true, but kupa did post that he and others weren't getting checks. Further development may not have been an option.

This is another reason, I haven't installed P5 yet. Sure, at first, it seems like a buggy 1.0 release. The next day, no crashes, and it seems "faster" for some unknown reason. By next week, your computers will be singing "Daisy" and locking you out of your homes. The reason P5 doesn't include the Lost In Space robot is that it would be warning you.

Being too cowardly to take P5 out of its box yet (cowardice not the only reason, really), I would note that even while there isn't a light year's difference between the renders (sorry 'bout that pun), we users have had years to work on creating good lighting for P4, and Kiera and Blackhearted are two of the most talented P4 lighters of which I am aware. That Kiera is producing ff renders of the quality above in such a short time after P5's release is good news, not bad news, IMHO.
Thread: Attn VV and SX owners -- possible bug in P5 -- multiplying magnets dials | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Based on what I've seen in the forum the last few days on P5 bugs, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that this particular one will not be near the top of the "to fix list." And I'm not saying that just to annoy everyone else in the thread; as noted above, the bug bugs me as well. As for CL having its head in the sand on this issue, I would note that (a) CL has had, and may yet have, a tough time keeping its head above water, given that its rescue of P4 was made barely possible by the Germans; and (b) the P5 complaints have also resurfaced all of the long-standing complaints about P4 bugs that were never fixed, but are more common (and more serious, from a functionality standpoint) than the one we're discussing here...crosstalk...the memory hole(!)...and so on. I also don't intend to sound like I'm ripping CL with the above comments; they have enough on their plate right now without a gratuitious shot from me. Nevertheless, P5 is currently sitting safely in its box in my home. I had originally delayed installing it while weighing buying a new computer to run it (given that it would involve a second registration otherwise). Now I'm just being a coward, letting the braver souls storm the beach, and bookmarking threads like nobody's business;-)

ROTFL...believe it or not, in recent e-mail correspondence, I told an old college friend that I always enjoy a good Klaatu joke!

Indeed, and to be perfectly fair to you, I haven't seen that problem with SX in P4...but it's the same basic techniques at work with any of these figures in either app., so it doesn't surprise me. I must say that I was at a loss when it happened with a hair prop. I can sort of theorize why it happens with breast mags, where it's possible to have overlap, or with clothing, where it might be a phenomenon like crosstalk...but a single hair mag? Again, resaving with the new dial set to zero has occasionally worked for me, at least as a workaround. BTW, a very nice figure...and I won't tell Hef;-)

You are free to disagree, but I own VV1, VV2 and SX, and own P4 (and P5, but haven't installed it yet). If I had the software, I'd do a screen capture and show it to you. I am going to assume that you are not calling me a liar, or delusional, as you have absolutely no basis to do so.
Thread: The Real Truth Behind The P5 EULA: | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Anton: Just to clarify my earlier point, I don't know that some of the language in the P5 EULA was directed at DAZ, but it is starting to look that way. Reading the EULA, I was struck by the seeming gap between the broadly written anti-compete language (Section H of the Content Distribution secion, if I recall) and the almost equally broad list of permitted commercial uses for P5's content Section J of the Content Distribution secion, if I recall). Concern about a direct competitor to P5 would be one explanation for that gap. And while the EULA is equally applicable to everyone, I think it must be conceded that a company like DAZ is more capable of producing a competing product than someone who merely brokers a prop or a character, or even a helper app in the MP. Having said that, I am currently completely agnostic about the consequences if DAZ develops a competing product. Personally, I have had very good experiences with both companies, and would not like to see either diminished by acrimonious competition. But as I wrote earlier, a competitive relationship need not be acrimonious, and can also be complimentary at times. Should DAZ move into a more competitve relationship, my hope is that everyone involved, both at the companies and in the community, will behave like grown-ups and remember that it's not personal, it's business;-)

Clearly, some of you have not been let in on the secret. Software companies could put out software that works. Sure, an app like P5, incorporating entirely new approaches and algorithms from several companies, is enormously complex. Testing that code on every type and configuration of machine, when hardware, operating systems, drivers, etc. change on an almost weekly basis is almost an impossible task. Almost being the key word. In truth, software companies, especially a small, specialized one like CL, could put out products that are completely bug-free. They don't because secretly, they hate you, and privately delight in your frustration.
