From which version can you update to the actual photoshop version? I have a 4.0 here and wondering if an Update still is possible...

In fact, I did not even mention you on the other thread, Blackhearted. So you may be sure that only the result may influence your discussion. Just in the case that CL is right and poses, cameras and lights are not copyrightable. But I promise, that I will not post the result here. By the way, this thread was started to discuss the copyright issue - not your case. But I think it's much better to discuss it in the apropriate forum, not here.

Since Blackhearted suggested we should use another thread to discuss the copyright issue I started a new thread in the "copyright laws" - forum. The link will bring you there. So we do not need to disturb Questor, Ironbear and Blackhearted when they name each other.... :)

Would be good in some threads, that's true. If someone asks for help, he still will get fast and friendly help here, and good advice too. But if we diskuss things with money, or politics envolved things are not that easy.

you do not need to buy it. from the Helpfile: Legal information and License. Program is PoseRay.exe and all accompanying files included in the packaged file PoseRayInstall.zip This program is distributed free of charge. You can use this program for any purpose you see fit as long as you give proper credit. You cannot directly or indirectly sell the program. I am not responsible for any direct or indirect damage that this program may create. Using the program implies that you agree to the above terms.

Poseray produces UDO-Files as well. UDO is just a file for Moray, POVRay uses the converted Povray - Source. Moray in it's actual Version does AFAIK not the new 3.5 Beta, but if you have MegaPOV it could work. POVRay <3.5 does not support UV-Mapping, so you cannot use normal Textures. But MegaPOV and POV 3.5 can do this. Since I never bought Moray, I have not much experience what can be done with it. I tested it a while ago, and i managed to get some renders done, but I did some changes in the sourcefile too. But the converter I used was much inferior to the actual Poseray-Version. I would give it a try.

A mesh is a mathematical model of a sculpture and copyrighted as a sculpture, as far as I know. Lightsets and poses aren't sculptures either. By the way, Blackhearted, I have not copied poses or lightsets, since I do not think that it's nice to share anothers work. But I still think it would be legal. I did not buy your lightset, i did not load bebops, so I think I'm not that much involved.

Kiera: That may be the case for a linklist, but only if it is more than the basic links - creativity IS required for gaining copyright. A linklist which contains just the required html-code for linking and the names of the sites as text for the links is hardly a copyrightable work. And for the light and poses set it is even worse - they are no literature nor a picture - so I really don't know why they are copyrighted.

Just my thoughts to that coyyright issues here: a preface: Since I live in germany, I do not know the american copyright law, so some things may differ. If you want to see a work to be copyrighted, it need to have some degree of originality or must show some level of skill. Noone would concider it a copyright violation if I repeat a small sentence. I cannot claim copyright for a buying list, or an adress book. In germany we call this level "Schfungshe", which means "Level of creation" or "Quality of creation" . I think you will have a similar concept in US-Law too otherwise I could sue everyone who paints his car silver, because I have done that before. Hiram: I doubt that lighting sets are protected as a literary work. If they are, the author would be a software named poser, not some guy turning some dials. The "literary work" you see there is a generic template, with a few numbers changed. A computer software is written by humans, a pose or light file is NOT. Every light file contains exactly the same templates, there is no creativity in this. I really doubt you can copyright that. Here in Germany, I'm pretty sure you can't. You could not sell copied poses or lights here. This would be "unlauterer Wettbewerb". (unfair business/enterprise) Maybe someone should try to sue someone who is copying pose or light files. It would be intresting if the judge would copyright some dial settings. I doubt that.

I still think you should use PoseRay. It creates an UDO-File so you CAN see the object in Moray. You don't have to fiddle with POVRay - Stuff. Just load the UDO-File ointo Povray. Without smothing you will need immense amounts of vertices to get your model smooth. I would think you would have to raise the polys by 100 to get s smooth model without smoothing the normals. If you do not have LOTS of ram, the render will take incredibly long.

Thread: The Amy figure is Posette. Don't be fooled. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Let us hope that Polartechs model would still be illegal. I will wait for an explanation. I think Amy looks intresting, even if her face is really ugly. I would like to buy her, if all areas with copyright problems are removed. The hands seem to be copied from posette, the rest does not seem to be. That Amy has similar proportions is no sign that she is copied and the mesh looks different to me. If I would model a female model from scratch I would make her similar to posette so there is a chance she could use her clothing. DAZ/CL will propably don't have any chance to copyright her proportions.

Thread: The Ultimate Marketplace Product | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hey, I order 4 of those.... :) After a good laugh, just some thoughts about it : Is the marketplace wrong? In my opinion, he's not. After all it pays the bills for renderosity. I must admit that the only thing I bought here is the tailor, but here is surely a lot of usefull stuff here. Is a picture not your own art when you just use bought stuff: Maybe. I surely do not care. I make pictures for private use, and maybe I will do a comic sometime. So I do need a lot of stuff, but my pictures are more "functional" ones, not meant as art. So I take what I can get, because I do not have the time to do the models and the textures by myself. And admitted, a lot of things which I saw in the marketplace are in mine opinion overpriced or useless. But hey, everyone can choose for himself where to spend the hard-earned money. And if someone will pay for a prerendered picture - well, I think you will get what you pay for. :)

I think that PoseRay can do the stunt. It converts a Poser OBJ-File into POVRays format and makes an UDO-File for moray too. The models are smoothed then. Just follow the link to get an actual version.

Thread: run poser library from dvd drive?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You could do the stunt if you're using W2K / XP. You can mount drives as sudirectories. So you should burn your dvd and then mount it as poser/runtime/libraries with the disk manager after moving the original subdirectory away. It should work...
