Hedheld makes the best points heree. Personally, I would never ever pay for a tutorial. Chances are, the information to do what you want to know how to do in Blender is out there somewhere, for free. It's up to you to ask questions in forums, and do some intelligent googling to find it. Heck, I've learned how to do some things in Blender just by following tutorials for different software too, so the answers are out there. I would pay only for a service maybe that put all the most professional tutorials, the really advanced stuff, into one single location and charged a membership. So long as the information there was updated with new stuff often, I'd pay for that. I'd never pay for just random tuts on how to do this or that, because that info is out there, sometimes you just have to ask.
Sharing information seems to be alive a well, and I have a lot more respect and willing to support people who share information for free, and then maybe charge for their high quality works. Ok, sorry for carrying off topic, that was just an interesting deviation in the thread, and I wanted to share my two cents.
Thread: Free 3D Turkey! Happy Thanksgiving. | Forum: Freestuff
I just spotted this at ShareCG.
I gotta' say your model is considerably more accurate , particularly the shape and size of its limbs, than some some items requiring a purchase!
Thank you for your generosity!
Sincerely,
Bill
Agree 100%. I saw the thumbnail of this in the freestuff, and thought it was a clipart photo at first. The preview renders are just amazing, and the model itself is one of the best I've seen out there, free or paid. If you search for roasted turkey on Turbosquid, the results are typically asking between $3-$45 for models which are clearly NOT on the same level of quality. I'm not knocking anyone's work, as I probably wouldn't be able to model and texture this kind of model any better than the next guy, but the fact a model of this quality is being offered for free excites me, and renews my faith in the 3D community! I'm becoming a big fan of your work, thanks!

Thanks, Lobo! That's interesting. I have to agree with the article that I'm surprised not to see this software used more in the fashion industry, where it seems to have the best "fit". I can imagine it used as virtual runway models for clothing designers, or as a tool to see how clothes will fit on a virtual clone of yourself. Those TBS billboards of the baseball player look very underwhelming, like lifeless wooden mannequins. I'm guessing they were created in early versions of the software, back in the 1990's or so?
I can see the real benefit of Poser being a great plugin or addon to software like Blender. MakeHuman on steroids. Would be great if they created it as a plugin to other 3D applicaitons, where we could easily modify and rig realistic characters, and then animate and render them in our own scenes. I'm not really intersted in modeling my own human characters, I like to model cars, buildings, and things like that most of all, so that would be very handy to be able to use my models made in Blender with a Poser plugin, where the character puppets could interact.

Thanks for the information, everyone. Makes sense to me now. I didn't know Poser was that good at rigging and animation. I figured Blender was more powerful for these things, but maybe not. I think I see why Poser is used, but still, I've never seen it actually credited for anything, like the movies and feature films that were made with Blender.
I'm slowly learning to animate in Blender, but my main focus is modeling. I figure that's the base of all of 3D, is the ability to make objects, and render them. Once you know how to do that, and do it well, then you can learn the secrets of making them move and come to life. I don't like using models made by others, although I have done so on occasion, just because I'm still very slow at modeling stuff. Once I improve my skills to where I can efficiently model everything in my mind to create a scene, I won't bother using someone else's models. I guess that's why I never really looked into Poser, because I felt anything I made with it wasn't truly my own creation. I have seen some fantastic illustrations done with it though, and beautiful renders. Usually the renders were done in other software though, like Blender.

GOOD GOD! Those are some awesome looking renders! You are a master, my friend. Keep it going. You work so fast, and stil do such a great job. That right there would have taken me a week. Seriously.

Poser looks like very basic software. Why do people like using it so much? Is it really that fun? Seems like it's used for fun mostly, as I've never really seen or heard of it's use in serious, photorealistic animation or movies. It's probably very easy to rig something there I guess?
Thread: 5 Common Pitfalls for Blender Beginners | Forum: Blender
Very good beginner video! Definitely some good tips in there that I wish I had known when I started out. If people watch that vid, it will help avoid a lot of frustration early on.
Thread: Daz3d Pegasus Modeler | Forum: 3D Modeling
I looked it up. Had no idea what this application is. It said, "Pegasus is a Subdivision Polygon Modeler built from the ground up for creating content for Poser." It didn't mention anything of it's features though. Just a few screenshots showing a short dress on some character model.
I couldn't find any forums or tutorials or anything else about it. Hope you found a solution. There doesn't seem to be any support or community out there for this modeler. Did it come with documentation? You might wanna try out Blender if this doesn't work out for you. The UV tools in Blender are incredible, and the modeling is one of the most powerful in the world. It has every tool and capability of the biggest professional software out there, like Maya or 3dsmax, and even more! Best part of all, it won't cost you anything but the time it takes to learn it. Good luck!

Hello, everyone!
Atpo, the one thing you must understand about Blender is that in order to learn it, and use it to the fullest, you need to learn and memorize the hotkeys. Unlike most other 3D applications I've tried, Blender's entire system is based on the hotkeys. While every application has their own set of customizable hotkeys, Blender depends on them even more than the UI to engage most of the tools, and to do certain basic things.
Even in some very expensive applications, that most people go to school to learn (like Maya or 3dsmax), there are buttons for everything, and it's a very graphical interface. Blender is different in that many of its tools are hidden, and need to be called upon with the various hotkeys by default. This is the beauty and the curse of Blender for many people. While I believe this is a system that encourages a much faster way to work, it takes a little longer for most people to discover, and can often lead to frustration if you never used Blender before. Once you learn and use the hotkeys, the application opens up for you in a whole new way, and all the powerful tools and common things you may be used to doing become obvious, in a far FASTER and BETTER way than any other application.
Stick with it. Learn the hotkeys of the latest builds (they might be different than older builds) by reading the docs and forums, and asking questions. Blender is the greatest 3D application out there by far, and it's FREE! :thumbupboth:
Thread: Free 3D Model: Crystal Ball | Forum: Freestuff
Quote - I like to share my render of this here. Blender, Poser, and Cycles to render. Two days of render to get noise out. I must get better render machine or try different like Octane for faster art. Photoshop to fix coleur.
I use your Crystal Ball and Witch Hat models for this. I have big version of it in my gallery to see.
Merci!
That's a pro level render, Zandar! Looks like it's straight out of a movie!
Two days to process? I've never had a Cycles render take that long to clean up, even with all kinds of refractions and reflections in the scene. I can only guess that you're using either the CPU, or a graphics card that isn't very powerful, or isn't a NVIDIA Cuda card. The CPU can be really fast, if you have the horsepower, and GPU is the same, with a modern and updated Nvidia Cuda card. Octane won't be much faster if your graphics card isn't high power CUDA anyway.
I don't have live comparisons, but I've heard Cycles is almost as fast as Octane, on Nvidia Cuda GTX or better.

Thread: 3D object examples that will import easily into Blender 2.72 | Forum: Blender
There's some really professional models I've downloaded from the freestuff area by this guy I'm linking to. I don't think they are meant for Poser, but all the OBJ zip files contain one OBJ file with "Blender" in the title, which imports perfectly into Blender. There's also one for "Poser", which I'm assuming is for that application. Not sure what he did to the obj to make it import so nicely into Blender, but there's always several OBJ files of his objects, and one is always labeled "Blender", and that's the one I always use. All the models I've tried so far were modeled extremely well, and contain all quad surfaces, so they can be subdivided nicely if you wanted to.

I always download his models when he adds them, and they are all real good. Hope that helps.
