Glad to hear your wife is recovering Paolo, I hope she'll be in good health again soon.
VERY unfortunate that you couldn't make it to L.A., but I'm sure you'll feel better when you see the number of sold licences climb rapidly!
And climb rapidly it should too; MAN am I impressed with the results I'm getting!
Never did I expect to create the images I am making now, this is soooo good!
Thank you thank you thank you for that Paolo!
Cheers! (3x)
Erik

Bugger, I've updated the original image on Flickr, and now the link in my posting here doesn't work anymore.
Looks rather odd, but I can't repair that properly, so instead here's the new (still unfinished) version as uploaded to Renderosity:
Cheers!

Just saw the announcement: "Reality 3 for Poser, coming soon!".
Best of luck and all the success in the world with/for your new product Paolo!

Quick render of the parts as they are now, lots of tiny levers and springs yet to be done.

Hey Superboom, if you really want to satisfy your curiosity, here's the inside:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/erik-nl/54144093/in/set-1150347
I've got 14 close-up shots of this thing in my Flickr stream, enough to keep you occupied while I'm working on the 3D version ; )
Cheers!

Working on a fun prop: a REAL steampunk gun!
Manufactured around 1890 by Minn.Firearms Co. it was named 'The Protector'.
I'm using Autodesk Inventor for creating this one (I'm a mechanical engineer by profession).
When finished it will have all internal parts, so I can show how this very odd thing (a revolver with a flat cilinder) works.
It really is great fun to be able to make complicated props like this for DAZ Studio : )

Quote - any tips to help solve texture seams? i'm having a hard time to get rid of texture seams in my characters, i'm using "Full size" in Texture size option, and i'm not using SLG. I tried different settings in texture size option but they didn't fixed the problem.
What you could try is to remove the textures in DAZ Studio, scale the character to 100% (assuming it is not), re-apply the textures, and scale it back to its original size.
I think this trick solved the seam problem I had a few times with M5, but I must say that I didn't seriously check if the initial scale was indeed the cause of it yet. It went away, and that was it basically.
FIngers crossed this helps.
Cheers!

Yep!
Downside is that it's a lot of extra work to modify the water surface mesh.
AND you cannot move the camera after that without doing it all over again.
But at least it works now (as far as I can tell).

The second over/under water render test seems to be successful (very early version!):
For this one I edited the water surface .obj in SketchUp/MeshLab to make an opening for the camera container. Now the glass camera box isn't partially filled with water anymore, and the render looks OK, both above and under the water surface of the tub : )

Looks like the partly submerged camera inside a glass box didn't work (see updated test image).
Thinking about it, it's not surprising because the water plane continues inside the box.
With water inside the camera container the situation hasn't changed, it will have to be removed first using an external mesh editor. That means quite a bit of work to neatly repair the boundary of the water mesh to seamlessly meet the contours of the camera container.
Nothing to be done about it.

Just started a test render with the camera half above/half under water inside a glass container.
Parenting the container to the camera sadly didn't work because it didn't show up (like the camera) in Reality's materials list.
Still too early to tell if it indeed works for the under water bit, but at least there is an image forming : )
I'll replace it tomorrow morning after a good night's worth of number crunching.
Cheers!

Bingo! They've got their helmets on like they're supposed to.
Now for some safety goggles and ear plugs : )
Thanks guys,

Quote - Couple of quick searches:
http://www.sharecg.com/v/25000/ (free, looks like v4, no textures, but you can fix that with coloring in Reality no problem - lists many material zones)
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/m4-headwear/ For m4 $14.95 at Daz, and there is a yellow hard hat as one of many hats.
Not sure if they are the right style, but much closer than your ball caps. :)
Wow, that was quick, thanks!
I opened an account at ShareCG, and had a closer look, but it wasn't what I hoped it would be. But then I found a better looking one in this set:

Glad you pointed me to ShareCG, looks like a very useful resource!
Thanks again,
Cheers!

Does anybody know where I can find a safety helmet (.obj) ?
I have seen images with characters wearing them, but I haven't been able to find a single one. I need the european plastic type. I've tried every name I could think of: hard hat, construction helmet, whatever, came up with nothing : (
I need it for a safety instruction demo like the picture below, DAZ seems ideal for that.
Thanks in advance,
Cheers!

Quote - Dirty little secret: Lux's perspective camera does not have any physical volume. It's like a weird singularity-pinhole-camera. :P It exists only at the camera object's center point.
Modeling a surface for the lens is actually a really good idea I never though of. A small box of architectural glass ought to do the job nicely.
But wouldn't that give unwanted reflections of the scene behind the camera on the glass in front of the 'camera'?
Maybe a cilinder primitive with a solid plane on one end, and glass on the other would be safer. I'll try and see if I can parent one to a camera, to make it pan and tilt with it.
Cheers!
