I have found that if you render the video as un uncompressed avi file using firefly, that if acts the same as if you rendered it as a png. It retains alpha transparency which some video editing programs recognize (I use Ulead Video Studio). It saves you having to render each frame individually. Works best with shortish clips or if you have alot of hard drive space.

Quote - Instead of File:Import: Background Picture, use File: Import: AVI Footage..
Set your Poser frame rate to the same as the AVI you're using..
I have done this before many times in the past, it works fine when I go to render the final movie or images, but that is no good to me for rotoscoping as I need the background image in the preview to sync up with the frame number, which it doesn't. If I animate the charater or object so that it matches the background in preview, then when I go to render at the correct frame rate, it will no longer match up.

Being from the UK the background movie is 25fps, I've adjust the output so that syncs up, but that does not help with preview, which is what I need for the rotoscoping. The aspect ratio of both the background and the window is 720 by 576.
I've tried using an animated node before on something else. I had a similar problem as I did with this. When it renders it's fine, but the preview which is what I need, doesn't always sync up properly. I might try to change the background movie to 30fps, render it out as images then change back to 25fps.

Thread: Poser 6 / Carrara 6 Matchmoving | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks for the reply!
Looks like I'll have to get syntheyes instead. My motion capture program exports:
3ds max (.ms)
blender python (.py) (different from poser python script)
lightwave (.lws)
maya script (.ma)
softimage xsi (.xsi)
text file (.txt)
Daz mention mention that Carrara can use Syntheyes files (most likely .syncar ones which Syntheyes could export for Carrara anyway) and Matchmover pro, (not sure which of the file extensions that it exports Carrara will read).
Still don't know if the camera movement from Carrara can be exported back into Poser, it could be possible via Poser scene but then I think that some people have been having problems with camera and lights.

Thread: Carrara 6 pro and Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have an old version of Carrara and never really got on with the interface. I mainly use Poser, but after seeing some of the new functions I am thinking about getting it.
I was going to buy Syntheyes because it is the only Poser compatable motion tracker, however Carrara 6 although not able to do motion tracking itself can import them from a few programs. I have a motion tracking program that I got free on a magazine cover. What I need to know is:
It sounds a round about way of doing this but Syntheyes is more expensive the Carrara 6, and Carrara could be used for rendering, modelling etc while Syntheyes just does the tracking.

Have you downloaded the 4.1 version? The original release did not have the phenome morphs in it. So it would not work.
If you have the original version, then you need to get Daz3d to reset your downloads for V4.
I think that there were only two or three of the files that had been changed, so you don't need to redownload the whole lot.
If you do a search for "V4.1 upgrade" in this forum, there should be instructions on what to do.
Hope this helps.
PS. I found it best to keep my original v4 as the new one won't let you save new characters as a figure where you want to.

Thanks mrsparky, looks like I'll be sticking to dial spinning for the time being.

I was thinking about this too. However the screen shots apart from the animated one don't look that fantastic, and M3 kind of has a basic Arnie shaped head to start off with, square jaw etc. It would be nice to see how it deals with other shaped heads. Also, does it only use one photo? This could be good in that most inthe past need at least two. This brings another problem, does the photo have to at an angle that shows the front and side of the face, to get a proper profile. Some of the textures on the side looked pretty stretched even on the animated one. It would have been good to see what it looked like with the texture mirrored as described in blurb.
It is on sale at the moment, so I may think about getting it, but there have been so many of these programs before, that just disappoint, the face room included (the one room in my poser program that has cobwebs and bats in it).
As Martial says, if anyone has this and can post some of their results, I would be very grateful.

Thread: How do you get the V4.1 muscles to work????? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The thing that I found a pain. I use to save copies of v4 that I had twiddled the dials on and set up new materials to create different characters that I used alot. It saved having to go to the pose and material rooms all the time. Now however if I try to save a character no-matter what I call it, it saves in the folder as Victoria 4, meaning that if I try to save another one it would overwrite it. Also if I try to use the full body morph dial on a V4 figure other than the one in the Daz folder it does not apply all the morphs. It means that I will have to save each figure in a pz3 file.
In a way I can understand why they did it, to stop people passing on figures that are really V4, but it's a pain in the ar*e if you just want to save time loading up your regularly used characters.
On the plus side its good to have a Mimic compatible V4.

Thread: importing camera motion from other 3d programs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Unfortunately, Poser seems to use a different camera system to all of these other programs. Camera tracking was on the top of my wishlist for Poser 7.
However another member of this forum recently drew my attention to a program called Syntheyes. This program can export camera and object tracking to Poser. I have dowloaded a demo version, but have not yet had the time to try it out myself. If you search youtube for Syntheyes, there is a short animation called Carport monster (I think), which was created in Poser using this program.

Thread: She-Hulk's old torn dress... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you're using Poser 5 or above, you could try a mixture of transmap and dynamic cloth. If you put a copy of the clothing object into a 3D progam and deleted some of the points, then when you run it through the cloth room you could get bits of cloth that overhang. Athough these might look blocky you could fix that by using a transmap to get a more torn look.

I use Poser 6 and Ulead Video Studio, but have found that if I render the animation as an uncompressed AVI file, I can then just add it into the overlay track in my editing program. It keeps all the alpha channels including those for semi transparent objects (as long as you don't use raytracing to render it).

Quote - Scaling:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2675892&page=3#message_2893533I have not had serious problems when doing a certain amount of scaling of bodyparts, but I don't go too far with it.
Speaking of the above mentioned thread and the poser 4 adult / child scaling feature, does anyone know what sort of scaling could be used to turn v4 into a child, like the one in Carodan's post? I have Poser 6, but don't think the standard figures are as good as the one shown there. Also what kind of scales would be best to create "deform / bobble head" type characters?

Thread: Windows Vista and Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - from what I heard, vista is a copy of mac os 10.2 and 10.3, but to get all the features, ya gotta spend $400 u.s.
Although Vista isn't based on the Mac OS, many people think that the GUI has been "ripped off" from it. From what I remember, Apple was the first to use the icon style GUI anyway. This is the same as the argument saying that the iphone design is "ripping off" the LG "Prada" phone.
As new technologies emerge, and new ways of working become the norm, there are bound to be overlaps in design and function. There are still significant differences between them.
PC's will probably still be hacker friendly, and Mac's will still be overpriced and a pain to upgrade yourself.
