Sounds good, Cant wait to see what they did with the particle system, soft body dynamics would have been cool but maybe that will come as a plugin. Just went to check out the site but its not up yet :(

.x is DirectX model format for game engines, Darkbasic is a DirectX 9 programming language for making games it supports .x for importing models for 3D games. I can use 3ds for importing models but would like to import entire scenes instead of one object at a time.

I have the Compaq R4125CA it works very well for 3D apps including Carrara 3 and 4 Pro the AMD 64 made a big difference. I added another 512mb ram to mine as I also use Vue 5I (memory hog). This replaced my Intel P4 2.6ghz with 1.5g ram and 160gb sata drive. All I can say is get it, get it, get it. Happy Rendering
Thread: what's carrara like? | Forum: Vue
I bought Carrara 4 pro, I like it. I also have Cinema4D, Truespace 5, Vue 5I, Poser 5/6 as well as other programs I have purchased over the years, I started with Bryce 3 and raydream Studio you have to start somewhere is 3D and Carrara will give you lots of option. Yea there are apps out there that will give you more features or do different things this all a part of doing 3D - there is no one perfect app out there. Carrara is a great entry level product it has a great render engine and is fairly quick. Remember art is only as good as the artist, tools make the task easier but it wont make the art better. Good luck to you with what ever program you go with. Happy rendering :)

Thread: Landscape Programs???? | Forum: Carrara
Carrara is a well rounded program, Carrara 4 is a better choice for landscapes, If all you want to do is landscapes take a look at Vue 5 from www.eon-software.com, Bryce 3D from www.daz3d.com or Worldbuilder from www.digi-element.com. Hope this helps. P.S. You can buy Carrar Studio 3 from Purplus for $63.00 http://store.purplus.net/carrara3.html I bought mine from them and am very happy with there service, it renders better and has way more features then Carrar Studio 2.

I use it to export to obj for applications that dont import native poser files (Cinema4D CE+, Truespace...)
Thread: OT - Cinema4D system for Brycers - | Forum: Bryce
I have Cinema4D CE+ (Yes upgraded off the magazine $100.00) and have wanted to upgrade to C4D v9 but have a hard time justifying the costs associated with product as mentioned above when you break down the costs your looking at the same price as max or Maya with less features. Cinema4D works very well but falls short for integration with other products such a Poser, This is one of the most widely used programs out there and most companies have made an effort to support some type of import to accommodate it. Im not trying to take away from the quality of the software, I use it to model with and the rendering engine in CE+ is fast but radiosity and hdri is included with all the other apps out there why not include it the core? When I think of modular I think of plug-ins that expand on the core or improvements that build upon existing features to improve the work flow which some of these moduals build on not add-ons to features that should have been included. Lightwave has all the basics built in but you can buy streamline plug-ins that help improve your work flow, C4D needs to re-evaluate there core software or their going to miss out on the new artist market. I agree with pumeco, why would you buy the core software then a modual to be told you need to upgrade to another core to accommodate the modual where is the sense in that? 3D software is a white elephant you will never get back what you paid for it, there are people that make money with the software they use and can justify the cost of upgrading but there are many more of us who are just hobbyist and buy it for enjoyment why not an entry level package like Avid did with Softimage? Sorry if this sounds like a rant its not meant to be, I like my version of Cinema4D I use it every day but when it came time to upgrade I bought Carrara 4 Pro, Vue 5 I , Poser 6 and a bunch of plug-ins which gives me more feature then the core software and as many features if not more then the studio bundle. I dont have a problem spending money on software I do have a problem throwing money away. P.S. I have Corel Bryce 5 and have used Bryce since v3 I love the software, it will always be in my tool chest and look forward to see what Daz does with it. Long live Bryce.
Thread: Carrara or Bryce? | Forum: Carrara
Great choice welcome to 3D, It really doesnt matter what software you use as long as you get the results you want. As far as Poser or Bryce are concerned they both are 3D software packages (you can import and export geometry) - just not modelers in the sence of a more dedicated packages. The first program I used to get in tune with 3D was bryce then raydream, bryce has a great manual expaining a lot of 3D jargon I later moved over to raydream because I wanted to make objects to render in bryce and soon added poser to the mix to do the same. I recently upgrade to Carrara 4 Pro mostly for amapi designer (much better interface then the previous version) I think you will find the landscape tools easy to use and intuitive the the sky's can be made to look very nice with little effort. Happy rendering

I use several software packages (VUE 5i, Corel Bryce 5, Cinema4d CE+, Carrara Poser 6 and Truespace 5) I have found that there isnt any one perfect package out there try out demos of the various one's out there and see what fits you best. I use Carrara to do alot of my rendering its easy and produces great results however the modeling is weak, cinema4d or truespace has a better work flow. Take a look at carrara 3d basic V2 great package for the price. Hope this helps.

I just bought a Compaq AMD64 3500+ laptop with 768mb ram 128 mb Ati Xpress 200 and a 100 gig hd and it stomps all over my P4 2.6ghz 1.5gb ram 160gb sata desktop. My render times seem to be cut in half. AMD64 Rocks
