Yeah, those artifacts in the GI render are a real pain - I guess that's why the feature isn't officially supported. The markings are very specific and don't change under different lighting conditions, so it may be more of an issue with the 3D mesh. Oh well, like I said it ain't perfect but it might be fun to tinker with. Hey jon, that room is looking good. later jdc

That is correct. Also, forgot to add that the last pic uses bagginsbill's inverse square node together with the Stewer's GI script - putting those two things together makes a big difference. take care jdc

Hey mon, If you up to creating animations from scratch check out Phil Cooke's "Rotoscoper": http://istore.mikrotec.com/philc/index1.html?page=catalog&category=a&vid=2080245373&pid=924839477&oldvid=2143420604 Also, Daz Studio may offer other animation options that you might find useful - worth a look-see. later jdc

Just to clearify. The light source element itself is never visible. The candle simply represents the position from which the light source emanates. The cone on the floor is a standard prop and it appears to be bright because it is sitting so close to the light source. The inverse square ratio dramatically changes the nature of the standard Poser light source - and by using it you need to change the way you handle light in any given scene. You have to deal with the same problems and obstacles that a Photographer or Cinematographer would have. Any object too close to the light will blow out the exposure and any oblect too far away will be too dark to see. The light source and the subject have to be arranged correctly in order to provide the desired mood - just like in real life. It's more difficult but the upside is that the final render should look much more natural/realistic than ever before. hmmm, we might need a Poser Light Meter..... :) take care jdc
Thread: Any free or affordable tools for comics? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hey mon Check out this website for a cool way to make comic renders using any 3D program and a photo program like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. (...language warning...) http://www.3dluvr.com/rogueldr/tutorials/toon_ink/toon_ink.html The tutorial calls for a self illuminated material/shader which Poser does not have - but, you can simulate it by placing an "infinite light" or "point Light" in the same coordinate space as the camera. You can also raise the light above the camera's position which will result will be a weighted line. good luck jdc

Hello Thanks bagginsbill for your hard work on this shader. I've been doing some experimenting with this shader and I've found that the fall-off become less predictable when negative values are used for the light's coordinates. That may explain some of the problems that jonthecelt is experiencing. jonthecelt, if you move the "Dream Home" so that it rests in the positive area in the world space then all the light will have positive values for their XYZ coordinates - that should produce a much more uniform fall-off for each light. take care jdc
Thread: Must I lose my mind? (Setup Room-related question) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hey mon Give this a try... Grab yourself a copy of "Cr2Editor". Load the first figure into Cr2editor and delete any materials that may exist - only leaving the "preview" material as a default. Now, when you enter the setup room and load the skeleton into your new mesh there wont be any old materials to cause any confusion. good luck jdc
Thread: Poser 7> adding body movements to a walk path | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hey mon, With Poser 7 we now have animation layers. After you make a walk animation open up the animation palette and then select the "layers" tab. You should see a new "walk animation" layer. Select THAT layer and then you can begin effecting the walk animation. You can also create a new layer to add animation over top of the base walk layer. It can be confusing at first, but non-linear animation layers is a very powerful feature. take care jdc
