Hate to say it, but if they make such a formal statement it's still an empty promise. Think about it...what is "going under" and who determines that it happened? Let's say that Curious Labs lays off 24 people and all that's left is the owner, has it gone under? The owner will certainly want to try to sell it and if a "crack" was released the value of the program would have greatly diminished. Okay, you wait 1 month, then 2. Your hard drive dies and you get a new one. You can't contact anyone to get a new registration number (yeah, the owner is going to hang around answering phones). How long do we wait for the owner to decide that the program cannot be sold? Another scenerio. Let's say for the sake of argument that another MetaC program ... Painter3D has "gone under". If there had been a similar arrangement back then who would be responsible for providing the "crack", MetaC, Curious, Adobe? If an employee of any one of those did it they would find themselves in court and possibly jail. So when CL goes out who's going to do it? (by the way, in my view there are two kinds of businesses, those out of business and those that are going that way ... however, slowly (e.g. Pan American Airlines, Montgomery Ward, Commodore...) If the "crack" was put "in escrow" with some lawyer with specific instructions that the Poser community understood about what would have to happen to have the "crack" released, well then maybe you could trust that it would occur. In the end I'm not worried about CL going out of business. When they do the hacker/Warez people having done their thing will have provided us with the "crack". Hmmm where was that Warez address...I had it here somewhere...

Marque, CL never sought feedback on the copy protection scheme. In fact, privately I'll bet that Steve would prefer that the discussion go away...if not just to get back to playing with his beta versions of P5.

Kupa, Okay, let's say that I have 3 computers in 3 different places and all 3 places are on the Internet. Will I still be able to install the software on 3 computers or will it only allow me to have 1 install? I thought software license agreements allowed me to install it in as many places as I wanted, but if I only owned one copy of the program then I could only be running it on one computer at any one time. Is that still true?

It depends on what character you are using. Some of the characters were created with the clothing already on. For those characters you cannot change the clothes. You can, however, change how they look through textures and bump maps. Some characters may have clothes attached that can be removed. For those characters you simple select the clothing and then press delete on your keyboard.

DAZ is a good company with very high customer support ratings. My guess is that they would try to work with you if you weren't happy with Vicki. I think Vicki 2.0 is supposed to work with all previous Vicki releases plus also work with Posette's stuff too. Yes, buying stuff just before it is upgraded does suck. What about all those people who just bought Windows ME to discover that Windows XP is coming out? Again, DAZ works well with their customers and will probably create some sort of less expensive upgrade path for those that just purchased Vicki. Perhaps some software companies would allow you to "return" the software and receive your money back and perhaps DAZ is one of them. However, from my personal perspective I don't see how that makes good business sense. Once someone puts software on their computer how can the company be sure you actually removed it? In terms of Vicki being worth it, it all depends on what you want to do with Poser. If you look around in the galleries and see what other people are doing I think you'll find that if your hobby involves needing accurate, human like, close-up faces, Vicki will be well worth it. If all of your figures are seen at a distance or accuaracy is not so important then perhaps not. According to information supplied by DAZ Michael 2.0 is on the drawing board.

Okay, now I'm confused. You mean that if I don't have a network at home and don't have an internet connection at home, then the software cannot be used at home unless I call and get an unlock code? Will I have to enter the unlock code everytime I try to run the program?

The ability to visualize and then reproduce what you want is either a gift or takes lots of practice. Either way, it must be great to have it. I am amazed at how long it takes me to get things to look correct. If I don't have limits on I either get twisted/lost and then things don't move properly or the joints tend to get broken. Sometimes what I do is pose the figure without clothing with limits on and then turn off the limits and add the clothes. But, I don't see why I should have to do this.

ockham - This bug was found when P4 was released. For some reason then Metacreations and now Curious labs could either not reproduce the problem or solve it. It is a real irritation. Schlabber - You can change the limits if you want to something that you think is more "real". Select the segment whose limits you want to change and then double click on the parameter dial for the action you want to modify.

Reason number 27 to buy the Pro Pack. Now, I wish I could find the money...Let's see, pay day is in 15 days...if I don't eat anything between now and then...I just might be able to come up with it.

I wasn't aware that this could be done using Compose and UVmapper. Could you provide a basic overview of how this could be done using these programs? I'll download them in the morning and start exploring.
