Hi Mike! That looks fantastic! We do architectural stills and animations and from the still above that is a very well-done prop. From what I can see it is nicely-textured and the lighting is not bad at all. Very good job! Cheers! Megalodon

Thread: "Virtual Child Pornography" - FYI | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
And the time will come when those on the far right decide (believe) that any form of nudity whatsoever (any age) is the work of evil and ultimately all nudity depicted in art in all museums around the world is torn down and destroyed. And after that there will come a time when a womans feet in a "revealing" shoe will be considered too erotic and sexually stimulating by those on the far right and being in power at the time they will ban all of the revealing footwear. Athletes foot will increase dramatically. And then will come the time that shorts on children will be deemed too intoxicating to the weak-minded of society so it is decided it would best be served if all shorts are removed from store shelves - where of course now only black, gray and white clothing resides anyway. Ultimately there will only be one type of clothing - unisex where no bumps or bulges show AT ALL because to show anything concerning the actual human body will be considered way too lascivious. I think space suits will work. ***************************** Everything is in the eye of the beholder. What is lascivious and sexually exciting to you may not be at all to me - and vice-versa! We all must remember that we really don't live in a totally free country. We sacrifice many freedoms for safety, protection and security. Wouldn't it be nice to NOT have to lock your front door when you go to work? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to leave your keys in the car knowing that it will still be there when you get back? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to create art without having to worry about if it meets certain guidelines and whether or not you could go to jail? There is alot to think about. But how far will we go? If one of you thinks that simply a naked (Poser) teenager is lascivious and should be banned - then what next? You can't protect all children. That's what parents are for. They educate their children to the best of their abilities. We are (for the most part?) adults here. Can't we decide for ourselves? Just another two cents.
Thread: Total Disaster | Forum: Vue
Mike, That happened to me before too. To prevent losing anything else in the future, I installed two hard drives and now ALL data goes to the second hard drive - the one without the operating system. The periodically I burn it to CD. Now when the computer goes a tad haywire and doesn't want to boot I just reformat and I know that all of my data is safe. Normally I would suggest partitioning your hard drive and have your data on the D: drive - but since you have those "crappy restore disks" it probably wouldn't work anyway. A second drive, that's the way to go! Good Luck! I know how you feel!!
Thread: Lip movements to BVH | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
What are you exporting the BVH motion to? I work with Lightwave and if you use the Poser Pro Pack along with Mimic you can export everything to be used in Lightwave (and 3D Studio Max) - and the movements created using Mimic are exported as well. A did a few tests several months ago and it seemed to work. Of course then you'll have to sync the sound afterwards, but nothing's perfect. Though if you just want to export the BVH information and not any figures... uhh, don't know.
Thread: Printing question | Forum: Vue
As Brian said, most printers work in CMYK. We do alot of print (using LightWave) and work entirely in RGB. When we send our images to a printer we also send a color (match) print along with it so that when they color correct (from RGB to CMYK) they have accurate color samples to work with and can get the colors almost exact - of course that depends opn the printer! Some printers won't charge you for color correction, others will. Best of Luck!

Now don't you just love forums? Look how much more informed we are. I've just gotta say that it really looks like we're civilized! Hopefully both Vue and Bryce will continue to improve - this will spur continued creativity between both companies and will ultimately give us a significantly better product. I have to admit that I (personally) am not that concerned with E-On's policy but I am glad I was made aware of it. I am anxiously looking forward to Vue 4. And Mike, err, "Chilly" - we all have bad days, even me! :) (Though I have been told that recently I've had more bad days than good. Gotta work on that...)
Thread: Anyone thinking of using models in Vue d'Esprit | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hey Mike, take a chill pill. Relax. Zstrike is apparently just uninformed. Fox did a very good job of explaining why E-On requests scene files when necessary. "Who the hell are you?" and "Let's hear your freakin' story..." aren't really necessary. Zstrike took the info he received one way and hopefully now he is better informed and realizes why E-On has this policy. We know you're the Vue forum moderator so you don't have to try and pound the other guy down to prove Vue is great. We know it is. I was actually "shocked" at your response because you have always appeared VERY level-headed and fair. Take a look at Fox's reponse and learn how to reply in a more civilized manner - he did a great job without attacking! I will just chalk it up to you having a really bad day.
Thread: Could we have a poll on security? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Movida, -Yes, lightwave is pirated all over the place and Newtek is doing fine. This says NOTHING about casual copying. I bet you wouldn't have as many sales if there were NO copy protection with Lightwave at all and the people who don't know about the warez sites COULDN'T make copies. -I wasn't insinuating that YOU copy software and give it to YOUR friends; doing it and saying it's okay are two different things. -As I said earlier, software protection (in my opinion) DOES stop casual copying. Just because YOU have no friends who are into graphic software doesn't mean that there are 50 other people in your neighborhood who are - and know each other. - And what if Newtek decides to implement a similar protection scheme? What if you have to call in every time you reformat your machine? Will you still buy it? -"If it was my product do you really think I'd care if it were pirated...hell I'd be flattered." I should be so lucky too. But what if your livelihood were at stake? What if you needed that software income to survive (ie, make a decxent living?) -There probably isn't one piece of software that performs perfectly as advertised. There is always a glitch or a bug - although obviously some more so than others. If you can't find it someone else has. If we had to return every piece of software that didn't perform preceisely as advertised we wouldn't have any software. And I like Poser 4 and PP - they both do what I need them to do. Sure there are glitches, but they will be fixed. Nothing in this world is perfect. -Time? I just started my own business and I HAVE NO FREE/SPARE TIME at all. I check out Renderosity just to take a break. So it suffices to say that time for me is a precious commodity. I don't need to waste it but I understand that companies like CL feel they need to protect their investment. I will spend the extra MINUTE (yes, minute, if that) e-mailing them for the registration number. And if every piece of software ends up like this, well, it's something we'll all have to live with if we want to use the software. As they (CL) stated, the software will be fully functional for two weeks anyway. What happens if/when all software becomes (as so many are predicting) "borrowed" over the internet - you just use it when you need it and pay for it when you use it? I hope this doesn't happen but it may. Then where will we be? And you thought calling or e-mailing for a registration number was bad...

Movida, I know I must be wrong but the way you worded your reply has me (and probably everyone else) believing that you advocate "casual copying." It gives the "friend" "time" to play with the software. I believe that you are 100% wrong that CL will lose "all the customers they would have had, if those "casual" copiers had played with the software long enough to know they wanted it" First of all it's ILLEGAL. Even when you "casual copy" it's a warez product - the difference is they don't get it via the web. "30 day evaluation copies are nonsense"? How long would you like? 60 days? 180 days? Hey, how about a year? Lightwave hasn't had a demo yet look where Newtek is. They don't have any problem in sales. World Construction Set, Onyx TreePro, Sound Forge etc., etc. do NOT have demos, yet people keep buying the products and they keep getting upgrades. And what does that have to do with CL anyway? And what would satisfy customers? Software for free? And yes, it would be nice to get money back on software that didn't perform up to what it was advertised to do. That is just one of the things that we live we, unfortunately. If we were really truly annoyed with the lack of performance of a product - we could probably spend an incredible amount of time writing to the software provider, etc. and end up getting our money back. But that really doesn't have anything to do with the topic of copy protection anyway.
Thread: Could we have a poll on security? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Movida - it was not my intention to patronize you and I apologize since that is how I apparently came across. The point I was trying to make is that more and more manufacturers are implementing some sort of software protection. It is becoming a fact of life. Newtek and Discreet and Archvision (etc.) all have it and although we complain about the dongles we live with it. We use the software because it's great software. I'll use Poser and the PP because I think it's great software - even though I may complain about the copy protection. And it is MY opinion that there are more people who just recognize this as just one more layer of hassle they'll have to deal with and will still buy the software - not the other way around. But as I said, we'll see what happens. Anthony - an incredible amount of a new software title is sold in the first few weeks of its release. If it takes one more week to crack it, that may be one more week for sales. And you're right, it only has to be cracked once - but it takes time for that cracked copy to make its rounds. I personally don't think it hurts the sales that much because as they have said in other threads: most of the people that use these warez are people who would probably have never used the product in the first place. What I think this copy protection WILL do is stop the casual copying. One friend bought Poser and the other one would - but his friend copies it for him so there is a sale lost. I know this happens because I've seen it firsthand. Were there this copy protection in place that scene wouldn't have been able to happen. It's obvious we all have different opinions and I'm glad we're able to state them. Only time will tell if Curious Labs is doing the right thing or not. My opinion is yes; the two of you say no. We'll see.

I think that you definitely need to protect the software Steve. Regardless of what sort of copy protection you end up using, as long as you continue to provide us with software that you constantly improve - I'll buy it! Poser is great and so is the Pro Pack. You "guys" (all 25) are great. Don't let all the CL-bashing get to you. The vast majority of us still supports you - and I'll bet that the rest will fall back into line once they see what you've got in store for the next version of Poser! Too many need something to rant about. I think I'd laugh my ass off (wish I could!) if Newtek ended up doing the exact same thing and got rid of the dongle. Then let everyone rant at Newtek!
