I tested the new HAB OBJ plugins and found they are not as good as their verions 3 peers, the uvmap is not right in max 4. Sorry if this was a wrong info. I havetried to contacted duck give feedack and to seek the solution.

I wonder how mocap use *.3ds in BP ? SHouldn't it be *.obj to retain the uvmap ? BTW, thip, you will find it ends up with uvmap issue created in uvmapper. I also use Painter 6 to make maps, it might be cheaper and quicker in some aspect. Painter 6's impasto is a good source for making bump-based map. Bu the other way, get BP (and C4D) now, future C4D V 7 will support radiosity and caustic which is faster than other peers. By the nexy way, get duck's obj2max and max2obj free pluggies for Max 4 ( if you have )at http://www.habware.at/duck4.htm (great free Max Plugin)

only in the 3d map is invented which use 3d pixel, each is independent from other. ZB has no mapping feature, all that you "Can't" is because of the uvmap associated with the OBJ importing into ZB. BP has basic uvmap than DP. DP use TW to generate complex UVmap, but is quite slow. UVMapper is always the answer, I remap the obj in cynlider mapping so the seams of head, leg, arms are at rear,rathee than at side. but this way collar is a compromise.

imagine a baloon or just a bigger ball, you cut it off so that to expand the whole mesh and flatten it, you end of a irregular shape no matter how many balls you use, it is not posible to cut in a round or rect shape. then you try to paint on the mesh, you need to line up with the seams so that if you recover the ball, the pattern you paint will be seamless as a whole. painting on uvmap is much the same,so that's why someone posted a colored uvmap for dld. it aim't easy to make a good paint in 2D, mayve in future 3D map which is composed of 3dpixels.

remaped and exported OBJ from TW must be associated in cr2, you can't use the origin p4 femme if you wish to apply the remapped uvmap.

oops a typo, UVMapper, sorry to Steve;P I most remap UVmap in UVmapper before importimg into BP or DP, despite TW can do similar job. if you have lw6.5, you know they have a new mapping called " atlas" muchlike a box mapping mode, at first look, it is cool, but too many separate smaller maps and ends of useless UVmap to me.

even custom uvmaps like p4/ppp or daz-zyg do not mean better map painting, I would remap the uvmap in uvmapp for the head and full body part in order to get better painting effect( to prevent stretching of texture, in DP or BP) UVmapper is always the answer for fast speed.

add sphere scale it huge, set the surface like above embedded image, Ctrl + i, disable casts shadow. voila...:P
