I just checked the original one. Actually, I much prefer this version. The other one looks too dark, color saturated and artificial. But this one is just perfect !

Thanks Mike ! I always wondered the difference between regular and quadratic (other than the mathematical one), but I never got a chance to try for myself.

Thread: Render woes.... | Forum: Vue
Is Vue just 'not responding' in the task list of windows or does it really crash and burn (meaning - disappears suddenly) ? I noticed many times windows considering Vue was not responding during a render while it was in fact still working, just very busy. How much memory do you have ? Does the scene have a lot of lights, blurs, reflections, transparencies ?
Thread: Render settings | Forum: Vue
Vue 4 gives outstanding results with high settings. The only problem I have encountered is the VERY VERY long render times (24 hours for a 800x600 image for example). But it is definitely worth trying.

Oh... my vote goes to Guitta for the vue challenge. His work has been outstanding (I still have to reattach my jaw from the 'postcard').

My vote goes to Raven for the logo. As for the upcoming VC, I can suggest the 'cookbook' idea (I dont know if you got the mail I sent you). Basically, it would be about making a close up of a prepared dish as they would appear in a cookbook. I thought that would make a change from sceneries.

Here is the link to the picture in its original size.Thread: Total Disaster | Forum: Vue
I guess it is too late for Mike to try that Sharen, but I agree. I had the same scary experience when my machine would not start or produce 'no operating system' and be fine after checking cables inside or rebooting a couple of times.

Sorry to hear that. I went through something similar at work a couple of weeks ago. If you need any help with the contest, just ask.
Thread: Appearance of 'freeze' while rendering | Forum: Vue
I wish they could come up with a better way to monitor the progress of rendering. For example, showing the current line being rendered instead of just a % (even just a line number would be enough). Something like : rendering like 325 of 600. Is there some kind of wish list for vue 5 like they have in the poser forum ? :)
Thread: The Insanity Project: My primitive project for July... :) | Forum: Vue
Agreed... Vue needs some measurement tools. I always feel like I am working blindly when I use the scatter and drop panel. What is the meaning of 'from x=-100 to x=100' when you don't even know the dimensions of your object ? :)
Thread: Appearance of 'freeze' while rendering | Forum: Vue
I should add I had to clean up my system to reduce real freezes : - no screensaver - no hard drive turned off (energy saving) - no other task running On a bright side, it big renders give me a chance to take a break from the computer from time to time :)
Thread: Dunno 'Bout this Ultra Render Stuff... | Forum: Vue
I found 'ultra' generates a lot of artefacts when using blurred anything (material, fuzzy, reflections...). Did you try 'user' settings instead ?
