Well, with the render running in the same process as the interface, rather than in a separate process, the full image rendered with no problems in a fraction of the time. (Sorry, didn't time directly, but it's usually hours to fail and this time finished in less than an hour). That's fine by me.

Thanks for the tips, but the second half-render itself stopped again, though a little further on. I'm trying again with Separate Process turned off. I'm watching the Physical Memory Usage History graph in Windows Task Manager and it looks quite a bit smaller so far. Also seems faster. We'll see.

Also, Bagginsbill, is HSV Exponential really better than individual gamma correction on each color map? Without the latter, aren't you still computing with non-linear color coordinates? Thanks.

**@ Anthanasius ** Thanks for the update on the update
I have just booked a flight with British Airways to USA and reserved a taxi to take me to SM HQ so that I can collect the upgrade in person... as it will prolly be quicker than the download.
Watsonville is nice, but while you're there, stop by San Juan Bautista - it's where Hitchcock's Vertigo was filmed and you can see the San Andreas fault running through the town square.

pjz99 - Ok. I'm still a dog on the kitchen floor with this stuff - scrambling to gain some purchase.

pjz99 - I know I haven't been able to really keep up with your GI problems, but I did try the following: Used you stewer example (coins on a table) and turned Indirect Illumination OFF and still got little black dot artifacts on the extreme right of some of the coins. Do you get that as well or am I totally off base (very likely, I think)

It's a theoretical question trying to get at how their algorithm actually works. My guess is going to be that they all match at one natural Poser unit from the lights. Another way to think about the question is: If I have a Poser 7 light set and want to use it in Poser 8 with linear/quadratic lights instead, how should their intensities be chaged to keep the light on the primary subject the same? It's going to depend on the distances from the subject to each light.

Is there any way to delete, i.e., unlink a library once it has been added? I don't see anything obvious. The manual claims there should be a folder with minus sign and little man, but I'm not seeing it. Thanks.
[Edit: Nevermind. I didn't realize I had to set the Show dropdown to the library in question.]

Well, eventually, I remembered the Windows Event Log Viewer, which at least told me I was getting Access Violations in the nVidia Open GL driver library. After reinstalling, etc. the drivers to no avail, I finally looked at the Preview Render Settings tab. Apparently, with my particular setup, I really, really, really want to enable the hardware shading support. Things seem much calmer now.
