I use 1024x768, but have to use the Windows "Large Fonts" option to keep things readable for my weary old eyes. Please, try not to force font and screen sizes on us poor users. We set our screens up for our needs, not yours.
Thread: Announcement April Challenge Is....... | Forum: Photography
I, being of course an entirely noble and upstanding young tigger, have no secrets to reveal. This is going to be difficult...

Thread: I have a question about Monitor Callibration | Forum: Photography
I remember that some calibration stuff came with my video card, but I have a DVD movie with a THX calibration utlity. It's a pity it was such a bad movie...
Thread: Why such poor download into? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, I wasn't expecting things to get this vitriolic... Pakled, the "dumb question" meme might have something to do with the quality of the Poser documentation, at least for P5. An index is not a re-working of the Contents pages, neither is it a concordance, and the Poser 5 manual isn't even the worst I've seen. So, for quite a while, I'd be struggling with a problem and wondering what I'd missed because of the lousy indexing. Now, if you'll excuse me, a clerical gentleman has promised to bring me a comfy chair...

Which, alas, shows why so many cameras will be useless now. I've been shooting with a Russian Fed-2 recently, and not a battery in sight. The real trouble are the cameras which used a mercury cell -- there are workarounds but you cannot get the original-spec battery. For 120 I have a Russian Lubitel somewhere, a very basic TLR, but there is a local lab which can handle the film.

I remember the Polaroid cameras from that era, and I don't think they used batteries. The flash used a bulb, and I don't recall and exposure meter, just match the weather-symbol. And then you pulled the film out between two rollers that broke the chemical packets and spread them out, and waited. Messy but magical.

And after checking the report... 1000 candelas per square metre is roughly a third of the brightness of the mid-day north sky, accorind to my old Weston meter. I don't know how it compares to normal TV displays, but remember to buy good curtains.

Will this home theatre be ready in time for the DVD release of "The Return of the King"? (Only half-joking: the first two movies have been widely used by reviewers as test material, and if you can show both Caradhras and Moria properly, your display has to be set up right.)
Thread: Posting fotographs of graveyards | Forum: Photography
May I suggest a guiding rule? Consider the time limit on copyright, which I think is currently 70 years in Europe, as a guideline for whether publishing a picture would be OK. I don't think a grave marker in a public place should be considered as a copyright issue, but that is surely long enough. Of course, if it happens to be a grave of your family, we can assume you asked.

Thread: Anyone here use Turbosquid ?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just drifting back to Turbosquid... They do have some free stuff. You have to be careful about what you can import into Poser, and about scale effects when you do. Some of the free stuff is good, some is barely adequate for background use. It may only be halfway to what you need. For instance, many material groups, but no texture maps. Have a look and try some stuff out, if you're a novice. You'll learn a bit about using Poser, at least. Some of the paid-for stuff is available elsewhere for less, possibly direct from the artist.
Thread: Materials Settings for metal objects. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks, that matches with my gut feeling, pretty well. Trouble is, some metal objects aren't polished smooth. Have a look at the chrome on a camera, for instance.
