The only things I hated about P5 were the manipulation controls, turning off IK all the time, and the wierd way you access scene figures and props. But in terms of functionality, It blew up far less often than DS 1.8 does on me now.

Well, I'll need to soak up the cost of Poser somehow as i need the setup room for rigging some stuff I plan to make. Gah, then that means adding morphs....arg.
Thread: Cleaning out DAZ cache? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I wonder if this might be connected to a wierd problem I keep getting...Basically after doing a few renders, my system resources max out, or DS just shuts down. If there's a cache It might need to be dumped every now and again.
I've noticed the deep search seems to work now, so waiting 5 minutes for it to load something at least nets me more than a waste of time, but I still wish I at least had an option to tell it not to try to help.

I use Daz exclusively, at least till I can afford Poser. I did have access to Poser5 for a while, and found the interface a bit clunky to work with compared to DS, but Poser does have features that would be nice to have, like the setup room first, and the cloth room. I wonder if anyone actually used the hair or face rooms?
Daz does have the annoying tendancy to go resource crazy at strange times though. I've noticed some scenes will take up 99% of my cpu, and half of my system memory. I can load the same scene at a different time and all is normal, so DS still has a few bugs to work out.

OK, that's what I thought. Most of these effects can easily be achieved with some reflection added to a texture. The main difference is that these textures don't appear to use bitmaps, but rather math functions.Â
By applying a reflection to a texture in daz, you can achieve an effect from polished metalic to latex that looks identical.

Another solution you might try is to grab PW effect and or PW Surface, they have a lot of interesting shader options for daz. One thing though, is they tend to be a bit resource intensive, but they are fun to play with.
Do you have a link to skyes shaders? there might be a workaround solution to adapt parts of them if they use bitmaps, or one might fudge something similar to work with Daz specifically, depending on what these shaders look like. A lot of the shaders I see available can be fudged in Daz by using a combination of bitmap textures and reflection settings for glossy metals, latex, polished stone, etc. Using combinations of various maps can give you a wide range of effects for a texture.

Any of posers math specific shaders cannot be used in Daz unfortunately, if I read what you mean correctly.

Thread: daz 1.5! how quickly dooes your render? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Most of the stuff in my gallery took an hour+ to render using raytrace if there are reflections. Gas Riot on410th took far longer because of the displacement map used on the catsuit. On average I notice that adding displacement maps adds 10-20% to the render time, and adding scripted lights, or pw effects can double the render time at least. The Couple took 3-4 hours because of the skin shader on M3, and the reflections.

I think modeling and rigging something as complex as the movie version seems to be is out of the question. Something like the toy line however could be done as there is already something to use as a reference.
Thread: help with plugin | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Thank yah kindly! I was trying to set it from the side panel, and that seemed very limited.
As to pw effect, I've heard some say it can mimic subsurface scattering for skin textures. Can it? and if so how? I'm not familiar with subsurface scattering, and do not have pf Surface to compare.
Speaking of pwSurface, anyone use it and what's the concensus on it?
